摘要: Devices and methods that combine an actual surgical instrument handle, for example the handle of an AutoSuture EndoStitch™ device, with a force feedback generator able to create resistance to motion similar to that encountered in a real operating environment. The devices and methods provide a means for repeatedly performing maneuvers that accurately simulate the actual instrument, but in a virtual environment. The devices have haptic capabilities and collision detection so that the virtual device, such as the needle driver of the EndoStitch™ device, is “aware” of instrument contact.

摘要: A tandem warhead for combatting actively armored targets including two shaped or projectile forming charges arranged one behind the other, and an ignition or firing delay unit which causes the ignition of the first charge and then the second charge with a time delay. To avoid the target's active armor plate (which moves when hit by the first charge, from impeding or even destroying the following charge) the tandem warhead is provided with a device for determining the actual angle of the warhead relative to the target, i.e., the firing or attack angle, and an ignition time delay .DELTA.t associated with the respective firing angle .alpha.. To determine the firing angle .alpha., an angle determining device includes a plurality, preferably four, distance measuring devices with which respective distance coordinates between the tandem warhead and the target are measured and used for determining the momentary firing angle .alpha.. Thereafter, the delay time .DELTA.t is determined with the aid of a characteristic curve .DELTA.t=f (.alpha.) which is specific for the particular warhead.

摘要: A method of applying a metallic guide band to the body of a projectile having particularly thin walls comprises making fine particles plastically deformable by heating thereof, and spraying said heated particles at high speed onto a surface section of the projectile body until a desired layer thickness of the guide band is attained. A projectile body having a circumferential guide band is produced by the method of the invention. The thin-walled projectile body has a boundary layer region on its exterior which may be roughened and/or deoxidized. The boundary layer region is formed by an intermediate layer which may be composed of molybdenum, nickel aluminide or nickel oxide and itself has a roughened boundary layer region on its exterior. This results in a particularly intimate physical bond with the particles of alloy of the guide band. The alloy is preferably of a CuZn85/15 type and has a porosity of up to 5 volume percent.

摘要: Devices and methods are provided for combining the handle of a surgical instrument with a force feedback generator, able to create resistance to motion similar to that encountered in a real operating environment. The working end of the surgical instrument is recreated in a virtual environment and manipulated by the modified handle through the force feedback generator. Actions of the instrument handle modify a model and display of the virtual environment and transmit a haptic response back to the handle. The devices and methods provide a means for repeatedly performing maneuvers that accurately simulate the actual instrument, but in the virtual environment. The virtual environment is modeled to accurately simulate the use of the instrument including manipulation of and collisions with other virtual objects, such as surgical thread or internal tissues. Training and assessment tools are also provided that coach or assess a user's proficiency with the instrument.

摘要: An anti-tank missile system includes a weapons carrier system with a missile including control means for controlling the missile flight path and a searchhead camera for developing target data during flight of the missile. An elevatable platform is mounted on the weapons carrier system and a sighting device camera is disposed on the elevatable platform for sighting a target. Target data is compiled before a launch of the missile with the aid of the sighting device camera. A fire guidance computer in the weapons carrier system calculates a flight course for the missile. A light waveguide is connected between the missile and the weapons carrier system for transmitting target data developed by the searchhead camera for use by the fire guidance computer and for transmitting guidance signals generated by the fire guidance computer for controlling the control means for guiding the missile during its flight; and wherein the sighting device camera is a high resolution camera and the searchhead camera has at least one of a lower resolution and different spectral range than the sighting device camera.

摘要: A keto ester reductase capable of being used in an NADH-dependent enzymatic reaction for converting .beta., .gamma. and .delta. ketonic acid esters into the corresponding optically active .beta., .gamma. and .delta. hydroxycarboxylic acid esters can be isolated from strains of Candida parapsilosis, Yarrowinia cellobiosa, Rhodococcus erythropolis or Pseudomonas acidovorans, preferably cultivated on a long -chain alkane and/or alkane acid-containing culture medium, approximately in the presence of an inductor. The microorganism is preferrably, Candida parapsilosis DSM 70125. A usable enzyme preparation can be recovered by fractionated PEG-precipitation from the cell raw extract: high specific activities (for example 1855 U/mg) may then be obtained by chromatographic purification. The keto ester reductase is characterized as having a molecular weight of 136 kDa+11 kDa as determined by gel permeation chromatography on Sephadex G-200, a pH optimum for conversion of the keto ester to the hydroxy acid esters between pH 7.8 and 8.0 and for the reverse reaction of converting the acid esters to the keto esters at a pH optimum of 9.5, and a temperature optimum between 36.degree. and 40.degree. C. for conversion of the keto esters to the hydroxy acid esters and from 50.degree. to 56.degree. C. for the reverse reaction of converting the acid esters to the keto esters. Not only (possibly substituted) so-called ketonic esters are accepted, but also number of other oxo-compounds among which diketones, (possibly substituted, in particular halogenated) aliphatic alicyclic and aromatic ketones, as well as ketoacetals and aldehydes. The S-enantiomer-forming reduction is supplemented by the possibility to recover R-enantiomers from racemates by oxidizing the S-enantiomer and separating the oxo-compound.

摘要: A signal transmitting steering cable (4, 40, 40') for remotely-controlled flying bodies (1) which, once the flying body (1) has been launched, can be located and disposed of easily. For this purpose the surface layer (44, 46) of the steering cable (4) includes a material which is fluorescent when illuminated with light of a predetermined wavelength range. Preferably, a dye whose emission spectrum lies approximately between 530 and 690 nm is employed as the fluorescent material.
