摘要: Methods, systems, and devices according to this invention provide drill guides for optimal placement of fixation elements, such as half pins, into a patient's bone. According to one embodiment, a collar frame (202) with a collar adapted (204) to receive a bar (270) of an orthopedic external fixation system such that the collar may be moved linearly or rotationally about the bar is coupled to a guide frame (224) including a bore (232) through which a fixation element (266) of the external fixation system may be inserted. The coupling between the collar frame and the guide frame allows for them to rotate about at least one axis relative to each other. In one embodiment, the collar frame and the guide frame may rotate about three axes relative to each other.

摘要: Apparatuses and methods for externally fixing and precisely adjusting fractures, such as fractures near the ankle, are disclosed. In one embodiment, an external fixation apparatus includes a first member attachable to a first bone segment through pins, a second member coupled to the first member through a lockable ball joint, wherein first and second ends of the second member may be translated transversely relative to a longitudinal axis of the second member, and a pin clamp coupled to and rotatable about the second member through a lockable joint and attachable to a second bone segment. The pin clamp and the second member may be releasably coupled.

摘要: An instrumented orthopaedic implant, such as an intramedullary (IM) nail, is disclosed. The implant has the capacity to provide an accurate measurement of the applied mechanical load across the implant. The implant includes sensors and associated electronic components located in recesses on the outer surface of the implant. The implant houses the sensing apparatus, the interface circuitry, the data transmitter, and the power receiver. The hermetically sealed housing is adapted for implantation in the body of a patient. The implant is used with a controller which communicates with it by telemetry, and there is an acting unit connected to the electronic components which is adapted to carry out a function based upon a condition detected by the sensors.

摘要: In one aspect, a method includes transmitting an interrogation signal. A first signal transmitted in response to the interrogation signal is detected, the first signal being transmitted by a first transponder arranged to move with a first bone fragment. A second signal transmitted in response to the interrogation signal is detected, the second signal being transmitted by a second transponder arranged to move with a second bone fragment. A distance between the bone fragments is determined using the detected signals.

摘要: A system (1010, 1110) for identifying a landmark is disclosed. The system includes a field generator (1016, 1116) for generating a magnetic field, an orthopedic implant (1030, 1130) located within the magnetic field, the implant having at least one landmark (1028, 1128), a removable probe (1029, 1129) with a first magnetic sensor (1026, 1126), a landmark identifier (1016, 1116) with a second magnetic sensor (1020, 1120) and a processor (1012, 1112) for comparing sensor data from the first and second sensor and using the set distance to calculate the position of the landmark identifier relative to the at least one landmark. The system allows for blind targeting of one or more landmarks.

摘要: Systems (10, 110, 1010, 1110) for identifying landmarks (31, 131, 1028, 1128) on orthopedic implants (30, 130, 1024, 1124) are disclosed. The systems (10, 110, 1010, 1110) include a field generator (16, 116, 1016, 1116) for generating a magnetic field and an orthopedic implant (30, 130, 1024, 1124) located within the magnetic field. The implant (30, 130, 1024, 1124) includes at least one landmark (31, 131, 1028, 1128), an optional removable probe (1029, 1129) and a first magnetic sensor (32, 132, 1026, 1126). The systems (10, 110, 1010, 1110) further include a landmark identifier (18, 118, 1016, 1116) with an optional second magnetic sensor (20, 120, 1020, 1120) and a processor (12, 112, 1012, 1112) for comparing sensor data from the first sensor (32, 132, 1026,1126) and second sensor (20, 120, 1020, 1120) or data from the first sensor (32, 132, 1026,1126) and landmark identifier (18, 118, 1016, 1116) using the set distance to calculate the position of the landmark identifier (18, 118, 1016, 1116) relative to the at least one landmark (31, 131, 1028,1128). The disclosed systems (10, 110, 1010, 1110) allow for blind targeting of one or more landmarks (31, 131, 1028, 1128).

摘要: Certain embodiments of the invention provide plates for treating periarticular fractures or other non-full body weight bearing applications that combine polyaxial fixation with a low profile and enhanced contouring that more closely conforms to bone. Such plates can be designed to achieve buttressing effect and/or to be used in a reinforcement mode. Other features can be combined with these. Such plates can be created for use on bone sites such as on a tibia, fibula, metatarsal, calcaneous, other foot bone, humerus, radius, ulna, spinal, maxillofacial, as well as sites on other bones.
