    摘要: A locking fastener for use with a bone plate. The fastener has threads on its shank to engage bone and threads on its head to engage the internal threads of the bone plate. The threads in the head may have a constant major diameter and a tapered minor diameter that creates a radial interference fit. The threads in the head may also have a variable pitch that creates an axial interference fit. The head may have a low profile to reduce soft tissue irritation.

    摘要: An instrument for controlled delivery of a device to a target area near a defect of a bone is provided. The instrument comprises a guide frame having a plurality of device portals, each portal defining a trajectory. The guide frame further includes visual markers for aligning the guide frame to an anatomical landmark on the bone to be treated. The instrument also includes a holder for releasable attachment with the guide frame. Each device portal is configured to provide accurate and controlled delivery of the device to the target area. In one example, the markers are radiopaque, and are visualized through fluoroscopy. A method of using the instrument is also provided.

    摘要: A modular intramedullary nail includes three connectable sections that are connectable end to end. The three sections include an upper proximal nail component having an open ended bore. The second section is a central nail section that is an elongated curved nail component having an open ended longitudinal bore. The third section is a lower distal nail component having an elongated open ended longitudinal bore. The nail components are connected and the end using corresponding conical socket and conical projecting end portions of adjoining end nail components that can be fitted together and secured upon impact. Upon assembly, the connections are self orienting, providing corresponding tooled "flat" portions adjacent the respective conical socket and conical projecting end portions of the nail components. This interlocking tooled flats align and abut upon assembly so that the adjoining nail components only align in one relative rotational position. The assembled nail thus provides an elongated continuous open ended bore that receives a cannulated fastener. The fastener extends the full length of the longitudinal bore of the assembled three nail sections. An upper enlarged head portion of the cannulated fastener grips the proximal nail component. The distal end portion of the cannulated fastener has external threads which engage corresponding internal threads within the bore of the distal nail component.

    摘要: Systems, devices and methods are disclosed for treating fractures. The systems, devices and methods may include one or both of an implant, such as an intramedullary nail, and a fastening assembly, such as a lag screw and a compression screw assembly. The implant in some embodiments has a proximal section with a transverse aperture and a cross-section that may be shaped to more accurately conform to the anatomical shape of cortical bone and to provide additional strength and robustness in its lateral portions, preferably without requiring significant additional material. The fastening assembly may be received to slide, in a controlled way, in the transverse aperture of the implant. In some embodiments, the engaging member and the compression device are configured so that the compression device interacts with a portion of the implant and a portion of the engaging member to enable controlled movement between the first and second bone fragments. This configuration is useful for, among other things, compressing a fracture.
