摘要: Methods and apparatus are provided for determining a defibrillation treatment protocol in an external defibrillator using a measurement of elapsed time. The present invention provides a defibrillator with a timer function. Upon activation of the defibrillator, an internal timer begins to run. By closely associating the activation of the defibrillator with the onset of the patient's attack, and by making allowances for inherent time differences between these events, the timer provides a measure of the elapsed time between the onset of the patient's emergency and the presentation of the defibrillator at the patient's side. Using this measure of elapsed time, the defibrillator determines an appropriate treatment therapy, such as CPR or defibrillation therapy.

摘要: An apparatus and method for delivering an external shock pulse receive pacing pulses generated by a first device and a shock pulse generated by a second device. An output of the apparatus is coupled to patient electrodes and the apparatus controls delivery of the received pacing pulses to the output and delivery of the received shock pulse to the output. A control module, pacing control and shock control included in the apparatus cooperatively control delivery of the received shock pulse to the output at a predetermined delay after one of the received pacing pulses.

摘要: A method and apparatus for a defibrillating system is disclosed that monitors the patient during treatment and then uses the information it gathers to adjust treatment protocols during treatment based on the patient's response. The protocols may include adaptive rhythm analysis intervals, adaptive CPR intervals, and adaptive shock stacks. A method of operating a defibrillator may include the steps of: obtaining a data set on at least one physiological parameter of a patient in a first data gathering interval; performing an analysis of the data set; and determining a time interval between the analysis of the first data set and a second data set, or the duration of a CPR interval, or the number of shocks in a shock stack, based on the result of the analysis of the data set.

摘要: A medical device capable of analyzing a patient's ECG, such as an external defibrillator, may be operated according to a method including the steps of: (a) determining if the patient is undergoing motion; (b) if it is determined that the patient is undergoing motion, providing an indication of patient motion; (c) after providing the indication, determining if the patient is undergoing motion, and if the patient is undergoing motion, starting ECG analysis after an elapsed time T0. The elapsed time T0 may be measured from a point in time prior to the commencement of step (a). The method may further include the steps of collecting ECG data of the patient, and initiating analysis of the ECG data prior to step (b). The step (b) may further include the step of interrupting the prior initiated ECG analysis. The method may further include the step of starting a timer when the ECG analysis is commenced, to measure elapsed time.

摘要: Techniques for initiating direct communication between an emergency medical device, such as an automated external defibrillator (AED) and a safety agency may include detecting an event and contacting the safety agency in response to the detected event and user authorization. For example, the AED may detect an event such as removal of the AED from a mount and alert an operator of the intent to send contact the safety agency. The AED determines whether an override command was received from the operator in a defined amount of time. When the operator does not input an override command, the AED interprets the absence of the override command as user authorization and contacts the safety agency via a communication unit. For instance, the AED may generate an advisory and send the advisory to the safety agency. The initiation of direct communication between the AED and the safety agency by the AED enables the operator to interact with a patient, e.g., perform CPR on the patient.

摘要: In one embodiment, a method is characterized by measuring a patient parameter associated with a human body; in response to the patient parameter, retrieving a maximum expected device parameter; and setting a limit on an energy source such that during defibrillation of the patient a defibrillation parameter associated with the maximum expected device parameter is within a defined tolerance. In another embodiment, a method is characterized by specifying at least one device parameter limit of a defibrillation unit; and in response to the at least one specified device parameter, determining a prediction confidence level at which the device parameter limit is exceeded for one or more values of a patient parameter. In another embodiment, a method is characterized by specifying a prediction confidence level to which a defibrillation unit device parameter is correlated with one or more values of a patient parameter; and in response to the specified prediction confidence level, determining a defibrillation unit device parameter from one or more values of a patient parameter. In other embodiments, circuitry is used to at least partially effect the foregoing-described methods; the circuitry can include and/or utilize virtually any combination of hardware, software, and/or firmware configured to effect the foregoing-described method, depending upon the design choices of the system designer. In other embodiments, signal bearing media at least partially bear the foregoing-described methods.
