摘要: A reduced lead set device (10) that detects and reports the presence of an acute cardiac ischemic condition in a patient includes a reduced set of sensing electrodes (12, 14, 16, 18, and 20) placed on a patient for acquiring ECG data from the patient. The reduced lead set device evaluates the ECG data on a reduced set of leads by analyzing local features and/or global features of the ECG data. Local features may include local morphological measures such as ST elevation and clinical information on the patient such as age and sex. Global features include projection coefficients calculated from projecting a concatenated vector of heartbeat data onto separate sets of basis vectors that define signal subspaces of ischemic and non-ischemic ECGs. One or more classifiers evaluate the local features and/or global features to determine whether an acute cardiac ischemic condition is detected. The operating point, i.e., sensitivity and specificity, of the reduced lead set device is adjustable. The result of the evaluation is reported to the user of the device.

摘要: The invention provides a wireless automatic location identification (ALI) capable system (10), including a medical device (12) having a wireless data communicator (14), a wireless communication network (16), and a remote locating service (18) for remotely locating and monitoring one or more medical devices over the wireless communication network. When the medical device is linked to the remote locating service over the communication network, the ALI-capable system identifies the location of the medical device and relays the location information to the remote locating service. The system permits reliable determination of the location of the medical device wherever the medical device is situated. The medical device may further be configured to transmit signals indicative of its status, condition, or self-test results, to the remote locating service. This feature allows the remote locating service to centrally monitor the status or condition of a plurality of medical devices.

摘要: A method and apparatus that automatically detects whether a load connected to a defibrillator is a patient or a test device measures a load-dependent electrical parameter, such as impedance, by delivering to the load at least two small-amplitude signals, each having different frequencies. Because the impedance of a patient is complex, impedance measurements obtained from the small-amplitude signals delivered to the load will differ if the load is a patient. If the impedance measurements obtained from the small-amplitude signals are approximately equal, the load is determined to be a test device. In an alternative embodiment, a small signal impedance measurement may be compared with an impedance measurement obtained from application of a high-amplitude signal to the load. Differing measurements indicate that the load is a patient, while impedance measurements that are approximately equal indicate that the load is a test device. If the load is a test device, a defibrillator implementing the present device may selectively determine to not store data in a memory, which data is normally collected and stored by the defibrillator while connected to a patient. A voting scheme may also be used to compare the measured load-dependent electrical parameters and determine the nature of the load when three or more signals are delivered to the load.

摘要: A device (10) that detects and reports the presence of an acute cardiac ischemic condition in a patient includes sensing electrodes (12, 14, 16, 18, 20, 22, 24, 26, 28, and 30) placed on a patient for acquiring multiple (e.g., twelve) lead ECG data from the patient. The device evaluates the acquired ECG data by analyzing global features derived from the ECG data. Global features include projection coefficients calculated from projecting a concatenated vector of representative heartbeat data onto sets of basis vectors that define an acute cardiac ischemic ECG subspace and a non-ischemic ECG subspace. A classifier evaluates the global features to determine whether an acute cardiac ischemic condition is detected. In a further embodiment of the invention, one or more classifiers evaluate local features, such as local morphological features and patient clinical information, in addition to the global features to determine whether an acute cardiac ischemic condition is detected. The device (10) may be configured with an adjustable sensitivity/specificity operating point. The result of the evaluation is reported to the user of the device.

摘要: Techniques for initiating direct communication between an emergency medical device, such as an automated external defibrillator (AED) and a safety agency may include detecting an event and contacting the safety agency in response to the detected event and user authorization. For example, the AED may detect an event such as removal of the AED from a mount and alert an operator of the intent to send contact the safety agency. The AED determines whether an override command was received from the operator in a defined amount of time. When the operator does not input an override command, the AED interprets the absence of the override command as user authorization and contacts the safety agency via a communication unit. For instance, the AED may generate an advisory and send the advisory to the safety agency. The initiation of direct communication between the AED and the safety agency by the AED enables the operator to interact with a patient, e.g., perform CPR on the patient.

摘要: A method and apparatus for controlling the common mode impedance misbalance of an isolated single-ended circuit for all common mode paths, thereby allowing the balancing of the common mode impedances which reduces common mode effects while maintaining the advantages of the single-ended amplifier including circuit simplicity and the reference input connected to circuit ground. In one embodiment, two solid shields enclose the circuit as completely as possible with the inner shield connected to circuit ground which is also the reference for all other inputs to the circuit. A discrete capacitor is connected between the outer shield and each of the non-reference inputs. When the shield is complete, i.e., solid, almost solid with minimal holes or a fine mesh, the value of the discrete capacitor is selected to match the parasitic capacitance formed between the outer shield and the inner shield. In another embodiment, the shield may be incomplete, i.e., a grid, coarse mesh or a solid shield only enclosing a portion of the circuit; this shield is connected to the non-reference input of the circuit. In this case, the exposures of the incomplete outer shield and the electronic circuit ground plane (or inner shield) to an external noise source are matched to balance the effect of their parasitic capacitances. Also, in the case of an incomplete shield, a discrete capacitor may be connected between the outer shield and the non-reference input of the circuit to enable balancing the impedances to common mode currents.
