Abstract: A system and method for generating a non-linear model of the airway of a sleeping subject is provided. The system comprises an interface adapted to obtain an airway model configured to represent respiratory airflow in the airway of the subject; a movement sensor arrangement configured to detect movement of the chest or abdomen of a subject; an airflow sensor arrangement configured to detect an airflow in the airway of the subject; and a processor arrangement. The processor arrangement is configured to determine a movement pattern from detected movement of the chest or abdomen of the subject; determine an airflow pattern from detected airflow in the airway of the subject and modify the airway model based on the movement pattern and the airflow pattern so as to generate a subject-specific piecewise linearized non-linear airway model for the subject representing respiratory airflow in the airway of the subject in a sleep state. The system may be used for patient stratification and sleep apnea therapy selection, wherein sleep apnea therapy selection covers the primary selection of a single or combination therapy, as well as the dynamic adaption of the selected therapies during sleep.

Abstract: In an embodiment, a control system is described. The control system controls a respiratory support system for supplying therapy gas to a subject. The control system comprises processing circuitry communicatively coupled to an interface for receiving an indication of a combination of the subject's head orientation and torso orientation. The indication is based on orientation data provided by a sensing system configured to detect the subject's head orientation and torso orientation. The control system further comprises a machine-readable medium storing instructions. When executed by the processing circuitry, the instructions cause the processing circuitry to identify, from parameter information associated with each of a set of different combinations of head orientation and torso orientation, a parameter value of the therapy gas for the respiratory support system to use in supplying the therapy gas to the subject for the indicated combination of the subject's head orientation and torso orientation. The respiratory support system is caused to supply the therapy gas with the identified parameter value.

Abstract: An apparatus for controlling positioning of a subject's jawbone including an expandable device expandable to apply a force on the subject's jawbone in a direction of an anterior position with respect to a subject's skull; a mounting device holding the expandable device in proximity to the subject's jawbone to facilitate application of the force on the subject's jawbone and configured to position the expandable device behind the subject's jawbone such that application of the force on the subject's jawbone rotates the subject's jawbone relative to the subject's skull towards the anterior position; and a control system configured to control the force in response to the control system receiving an indication of a change in at least one of: an oxygen level of the subject; a gas flow rate of therapy gas supplied to the subject; a position and/or orientation of the subject; and/or a sleep state of the subject.

Abstract: A sleep therapy system comprises a sensor arrangement for detecting physiological parameters of a subject, a detection system for detecting a sleeping position of the subject and an alert system for instructing a change in sleep position of the subject. From the monitored physiological parameters, fluid accumulation is identified in a region of the body of the subject. The alert system is controlled to instruct a change in sleep position thereby to reverse the fluid accumulation.
