摘要: A raw material pitch for carbon fiber production, with which carbon fiber excellent in tensile strength can be produced at relatively low costs, is provided. The raw material pitch is obtained from coal, is a pitch for producing carbon fiber by melt spinning, and contains oxygen in a content of 1.0% by mass or more and a toluene-soluble component in a content of 20% by mass or more. The coal is preferably bituminous coal or sub-bituminous coal. The raw material pitch is preferably prepared by subjecting a solvent-soluble component separated from a thermal decomposition product of coal in a solvent by a solvent extraction treatment at a temperature of less than 300° C. to a heat treatment at a temperature of 150° C. or more.

In addition, the obtained carbon material contains ashless coal and has an optically anisotropic structure in which the proportion of the structure that is a coarse-grained mosaic or finer is 90% or higher.

摘要: A method for producing a carbon material including an oxidation step of oxidizing an ashless coal, a forming step of mixing an oxidized ashless coal obtained in the oxidation step and an unoxidized ashless coal and forming a mixture thereof, and a carbonization step of carbonizing a formed body obtained in the formation step. Percentage of increase in oxygen of the oxidized ashless coal obtained in the oxidation step is from 2.0 to 10.0%. A mixing ratio of the oxidized ashless coal in the forming step is from 60 to 95 parts by mass per 100 parts by mass of a total of the oxidized ashless coal and the unoxidized ashless coal.

摘要: A production apparatus of an ashless coal includes a preheater, an extraction tank, a feed pipe, a solid-liquid separator and a solvent separator. The preheater heats a solvent. The extraction tank extracts a coal component soluble in the solvent from a slurry including a mixture of a coal and the solvent heated by the preheater. The coal feeding unit feeds the coal to the feed pipe by pressuring a feed part to the feed pipe such that the solvent does not flow back. The solid-liquid separator separates a solution part containing the coal component from the slurry. The solvent separator evaporates and separates the solvent from the solution part to obtain an ashless coal.
