摘要: A miniaturized optical disk apparatus which performs a pull-in of a focus servo and a pull-in of a tracking servo without a position detector for detecting an optical head. If the optical head is located at a non-reflection film area and thus the focus servo cannot be performed, then the optical head is moved and the focus servo is performed again. This process is repeated until the focus servo can be achieved. In addition, if the optical head is located at a non-track area, then the optical disk is moved to a track area and then the tracking servo is performed. This process also repeated until the optical head is located over the track area. The tracking servo can be stably performed since it is performed only when the optical head is located over the track area. The present invention is applicable to the optical disk apparatus which uses a 3.5 in optical disk.

摘要: This digital data reproducing apparatus is adapted to prevent reproduction errors of data, wherein a read gate opened when a fixed pattern in a header field for phase locking is detected is kept opened until the data reproduction in a data field is completed, whereby the phase locking in the data field is performed still in the same low-speed mode as when the PLL pull-in is completed in the header field, with the responding ability lowered to defects such as voids or the like in the phase locking pattern area in the data field. This digital data reproducing apparatus is adapted to prevent reproduction errors, wherein, when a reproduced data in a data field is locked, a read gate is opened after a fixed pattern recorded for phase locking is surely detected, so that the phase locking is started in a high-speed mode, while avoiding erroneous operations of the PLL.

摘要: A rotating disk data storage device havIng a buffer in the form of a semiconductor memory for temporarily storing data supplied from a host computer prior to transfer to a disk drive. For most efficient data transfer from buffer to disk, the storage device has a microprocessor controller which is preprogrammed to compute the average, or weighted average, of the time intervals at which at least three, preferably eight, latest consecutive data blocks are delivered from the host, the average being updated with the reception of each new data block from the host. The data is transferred from buffer to disk at time intervals each determined by multiplying the latest average time interval by a preselected coefficient. Data transfer from buffer to disk also occurs when the time interval between any two consecutive data blocks exceeds a predetermined limit, or when the amount of data stored in the temporary memory exceeds a predetermined limit.

摘要: To detect an MSK modulation mark from an MSK-modulated wobble signal without fail. A wobble signal of an optical disk is supplied to an address decoding circuit. The address decoding circuit performs exclusive-OR operation of a binarized wobble signal and a reference clock signal generated from the wobble signal by an PLL circuit, to thus compute a proportion of the exclusive-OR result assuming a value of one every half period of a reference clock signal. When there are continuously present a predetermined number of sections or more where a proportion becomes a predetermined threshold proportion or more, the sections are detected as an MSK modulation mark. A system controller changes the threshold proportion in accordance with crosstalk from an adjacent track.

摘要: A high-definition optical disk and a high-definition optical disk drive, which record data on lands and grooves. Wobbles are formed in grooves and lands of an optical disk, and address information is embedded in the wobbles. The wobbles are formed so as to become in phase with each other in the grooves. An address of the land sandwiched between the grooves is detected from the wobble of the groove. When the wobble of the land is not an in-phase wobble but is of opposite phase, a gray code of the wobble is substituted with a binary address such that 0 is achieved when the gray code is converted into the binary address. As a result, even in the case of the wobble of opposite phase, the address information about the land is made coincident with address information about an inner-radius-side adjacent groove, thereby determining address information about the land.
