摘要： A data path control device with a first interface section for connecting to a LAN, second interface section for connecting to an external network through a small transmission capacity two-way line such as a telephone line, and third interface section for receiving a large capacity data from a large transmission capacity one-way line such as a satellite broadcast line. The data path control device changes the sender address of the data transmitted from a computer to a network based on a previously set correspondent relationship, thereby controls the path so that the large capacity data from the network is transmitted through the large transmission capacity one-way line. A path of the reply data from a network responsive to the request data from a computer outputted to an external network is selected by the computer side, and in the case that the reply data is composed of large capacity data, a satellite line having a large transmission capacity can be selected.

摘要： A technique for transmitting and receiving an electronic program guide which identifies programs that are to be transmitted. Electronic program guide (EPG) data includes image data representing images of reduced, less than normal, size to identify respective programs which are to be transmitted. The EPG data is combined with program data, the latter representing different programs transmitted on different broadcast channels, and the combined data is transmitted. On reception, the EPG data is separated from the received program data and the images of reduced, less than normal size represented by the EPG data are displayed in superposition over the received program.

摘要： In a content distribution system, a content provider transmits a motion picture content and usage rule metadata to a playback apparatus. In the usage rule metadata, a rule of secondary use of the motion picture content is prescribed. The playback apparatus has a controller that analyzes the usage rule metadata and controls the operation of the playback apparatus such that a still image is allowed to be extracted from the motion picture content within the limit prescribed in the usage rule. When a user extracts a still image, the playback apparatus generates user metadata in terms of extraction and transmits it to an accounting system. The accounting system performs an accounting process based on the received user metadata. Thus, users are allowed to extract still images from motion picture contents within the limit prescribed by content providers in usage rules, and content providers perform the accounting process to charge fees for secondary use of motion picture contents.
