    摘要: A magnetic disk, which is used for recording and reproducing data with a read/write head. The magnetic disk has an index area with an index signal recorded therein and a plurality of servo sectors formed between a plurality of data areas subsequent to the index area. Each servo sector has a servo information area, in which a servo information pattern adapted for positioning the read/write head is formed, and first and second gap sections provided on the both sides of the servo information area for absorbing rotational variations of the disk.

    摘要: A magnetic disk comprises a data area and a single index servo sector area embedded in the data area. The servo sector has three or more servo information pattern sections formed side by side in the direction of data tracks in the data area. The servo information pattern sections each have a plurality of servo information bit cells formed in a predetermined pattern in a direction perpendicular to the direction of data tracks. The servo information bit cells are used to produce a position signal for positioning a read/write head. A servo system for positioning the read/write head averages a plurality of position signals obtained from the servo information pattern sections and uses the averaged position signal for positioning the read/write head.

    摘要: A head positioning control system for use with a disk drive having a head unit with separate read and write heads is disclosed. A CPU executes the seek control for moving a head to a target track on the basis of the servo data prerecorded on the disk. After the seek control, the CPU executes the track following control operation for positioning the read head within a range of a target track at the time of read operation and positioning the write head within a range of the target track at the time of write operation on the basis of the positional information based on the servo data and the table information prepared in an EEPROM. The table information includes the positioning control reference information for determining the final set point of the read gap or the write gap in accordance with the read operation or the write operation, respectively, for each track.
