摘要: A yeast strain with high power to produce alcohol by fermentation is produced by a method comprising directly conjugating the haploid of the strain No. 909-1 with each tetrad of the ascospores of the strain No. 180 by spore-to-cell mating, acclimating the resultant zygote in the medium of waste after alcohol fermentation, and acclimating the surviving cells of the zygote in the medium of the beet molasses containing 2-deoxyglucose. The yeast strain produced is designated as Strain M-9 (FERM BP 1481) of genus Saccharomyces cerevisiae. Alcohol is produced by culturing the Strain M-9 in a medium of beet molasses.

摘要: Distillers solubles are purified by a centrifugal separation to a degree above 50,000 which is the product of g x minute, or a filtration with addition of a filter aid. The clarified matter is purified by a molecular sieve ultrafiltration treatment, reverse osmosis or an organic solvent precipitation. The clarified matter or purified matter thus obtained is pulverized by spray drying, lyophilic drying or air drying.Said clarified matter, purified matter or pulverized matter is added to a fermentation medium or a feed as an available component.

摘要: Newly isolated polysaccharide assimilating yeasts are added to a waste water rich in nutrients thereby making such yeasts assimilate nutrients, so that B.O.D. of the waste water is efficiently decreased. Among the polysaccharide assimilating yeasts, ellipsoideus YS-1, FERM-P No. 4498, in particular, can decompose and assimilate sulfurous acid, starch and protein at once, and therefore the B.O.D. of the waste water from starch production plants can be considerably decreased.

摘要: A novel urease and a process for producing the same are disclosed. This novel urease has certain properties that are mainly useful for removing urea from alcoholic liquors or other foods and beverages produced by fermentation. These properties include an optimum pH in an acidic pH range, high stability in a considerably high concentration of alcohol such as in an alcoholic liquor, resistance to high temperatures, and highly specific activity to urea.This urease can be produced by culturing a certain strain belonging to genus Arthrobacter, disrupting the cultured microbial cells and isolating the product.
