    摘要: A mobile station communicates with both a cellular network, by which it is assigned a mobile identification number, and to a cordless cellular base station utilizing the same cellular frequency range and communications protocol. The cordless cellular base station is preferably connected to a public switched telephone network and is assigned a landline number. The cordless cellular base station acts as a conduit between the mobile station and the public switched telephone network. When the mobile station comes within range of a cordless cellular base station, it deregisters automatically from the cellular network and register with the cordless cellular base station. Once the mobile station is communicating with the cordless cellular base station, the cordless cellular base station communicates with the cellular network to instruct the cellular network to route all calls for mobile identification number to the cordless cellular base station's landline number. In addition, all calls placed on the mobile station are sent through the cordless cellular base station to the public switched telephone network. When the mobile station severs contact with the cordless cellular base station, the mobile station registers with the regional cellular base station of the regional cellular network. The cordless cellular base station then sends a network forwarding cancellation message to the cellular network to cancel the forwarding of calls for the mobile station's identification number. Once the mobile station is registered with the regional cell, calls to the mobile stations identification number are directly routed by the cellular network to the mobile station.

    摘要: A remote unit has the ability to switch automatically from a public network to a non-public network comprising of private and residential base stations. In the preferred embodiment, the public network is characterized by cells with each cell having a unique identification signal. Initially, a first switchover from a public network to a non-public network requires the user to manually cause the switchover. The remote unit stores the first identification signal transmitted by the base station from which the remote unit traversed into the region covered by the non-public base station. In addition, the remote unit stores the identification signal associated with a cell of the public network previous to the current cell if the switchover occurred less than two (2) minutes from the exit of the previous cell. In this manner, the remote unit can adaptively learn as it traverses other possible paths from other cells into the region covered by the non-public base station.

Nodes in a remote energy aware network connect through a gateway node to a backbone network in an interplanetary communications network. Each node optimizes a stability function describing communications to neighboring nodes and to the backbone. Optimization is for maximum network stability and for efficient node energy consumption. Optimization identifies a handover time and nodes initiate handover sufficiently in advance of the identified handover time to complete at that time. Nodes continually monitor and update network characterization parameters to identify a next optimal handover time.

    摘要: A telematic emergency communication system is provided. The system includes a user terminal that generates emergency communication signals within an emergency signal band. A spacecraft network has a first emergency mode receiver and attempts to receive the emergency signals via a spacecraft. A terrestrial network has a second emergency mode receiver and receives the emergency signals when the spacecraft network is unable to sufficiently detect the emergency signals and routes the emergency signals to a control center. A method of performing the same is also provided.

The subsystem further includes a packet transmitter mechanism responsive to the embedded power level code for adjusting the power of the transmitted signal in accordance with the embedded power level code. This enables the transmitted power levels to be tailored to fit the needs of different individual receiving stations.
