Abstract:
Carbide pellets including relatively small amounts of metallic binder are produced by steps of pressing, comminuting, shaping and sintering. The carbide pellets may be used as wear resistant hard facing materials that are applied to various types of tools. The carbide pellets provide improved mechanical properties such as hardness and abrasiveness while maintaining required levels of toughness and strength.
Abstract:
A coated body has a substrate and a coating applied to the substrate by physical vapor deposition. The coating includes a main layer adjacent to the substrate and a multilayer adjacent to the main layer. The main layer includes a nitride of at least Al and Ti. The multilayer includes alternating layers of an oxide or oxynitride layer and a nitride layer. The oxide or oxynitride layer includes an oxide or oxynitride of at least one of Zr, Hf, and Cr. The nitride layer includes a nitride of at least one of Zr, Hf, and Cr. A metallic interlayer is between the main layer and the multilayer or between the oxide or oxynitride layer and the nitride layer of the multilayer.
Abstract:
Pelletizing die and knife assemblies that may be used for pelletization of plastic extrudate are disclosed. The knife assemblies may include an extrusion die and a rotary knife hub assembly. The rotary knife hub assembly may comprise a hub having multiple pelletizer cutting knives mounted thereon. Each knife may include a cutting blade insert mounted on a body of the knife. The cutting blade inserts may comprise a composite material having a continuous metal matrix with hard metal carbide particles dispersed therein. The composite material has relatively high hardness and good wear resistance properties, but may have a hardness less than the hardness of the pelletizing die surface in order to reduce wear of the die face.

Abstract:
In one aspect, articles are described comprising wear resistant coatings employing composite architectures including refractory layers of varying compositions and phases. Briefly, a coated article comprises a substrate and a coating deposited by chemical vapor deposition (CVD) adhered to the substrate, the coating comprising an inner refractory layer comprising M1-xAlxN wherein x≥0.7 and M is titanium, chromium or zirconium and an outer zirconia layer or outer multiphase refractory layer comprising an alumina phase and an oxide phase comprising at least one Group IVB metal, wherein the M1-xAlxN has less than 15 weight percent hexagonal phase.
