    Abstract: A pressure limiter and pump for use in a testing string. The pressure limiter has an outer case and an inner mandrel which form an enclosure defining an annulus therebetween. The inlet and outlet check valves in the annulus define a pumping chamber therebetween which opens toward the pump. Fluid in the pumping chamber is never vented to the well annulus. In a first embodiment, a transversely mounted pressure limiter piston provides communication between the pumping chamber and a lower portion of the testing string when actuated. In the second and third embodiments, a pressure limiter piston is reciprocably disposed in the annulus between the case and mandrel; at a predetermined pressure differential, the pressure limiter piston reciprocates such that the volume in the pumping chamber is increased. A fourth embodiment simply uses a pumping chamber of predetermined volume such that the efficiency of the pump drops to essentially zero when the pressure in the pumping chamber reaches a predetermined level; no pressure limiter piston is used.

    Abstract: A test, drill and pull system for testing a well formation or zone of interest and further drilling of the well in a single trip into the wellbore. The system includes a surface readout tester valve, a rotation-operated reversing valve, a resettable packer, a packer lockout, a perforated anchor and a drill bit. In operation, the apparatus is run into the bottom of the well adjacent to the formation or zone of interest and the packer set and unset as desired. With the packer set, a surface readout tester valve probe is lowered into the apparatus on a wireline and latched into the tester valve so that multiple testing operations may be carried out if desired. After testing, the fluid recovery may be reversed out and analyzed by actuating the reversing valve by rotation of the tool string. Further, rotation engages the packer lockout such that when weight is picked upon the packer, the packer cannot be reset. After the packer lockout is engaged and the packer unset, further drilling operations may be carried out without removing the apparatus from the wellbore.

    Abstract: A downhole current generator generates power in a wellbore and includes a power section and an generator section. The power section has a sleeve slidably disposed within a housing which oscillates in response to the application of fluid pressure to the current generator. A piston is slidably attached to the sleeve and oscillates relative to the sleeve and the housing. The piston extends longitudinally into an generator section and has a plurality of magnets attached thereto which oscillate with the piston. Wire coil sections are fixed relative to the housing of the generator section and are positioned between the oscillating magnets such that a current is induced in the wire coil sections upon oscillation of the magnets.
