摘要: A network node includes a system enabling high-speed protection switching of traffic between respectively associated working and protection channels of a communications network. The node comprises a multi-stage switch fabric, an interface, and a toggle. The multi-stage switch fabric has a first stage including a respective plurality of stage-1 switch elements. The interface is operatively coupled to a set of one or more stage-1 switch elements, and is adapted to aggregate the working and protection channels of the communications network on a selected one of the set of stage-1 switch elements. Finally, the toggle is adapted to control the selected stage-1 switch element to map traffic between a middle stage of the switch fabric and a selected one of the working and protection channels.

摘要: A receiver is configured to detect, at a communication interface, a received signal that suffers from degradations incurred over a communication channel. The receiver applies an adaptive filter to a series of received blocks of a digital representation of the received signal, thereby generating respective filtered blocks, where each received block represents 2N frequency bins, and where N is a positive integer. The receiver calculates coefficients for use by the adaptive filter on a jth received block as a function of (i) error estimates associated with an (j−D−1)th filtered block, where D is a positive integer representing a number of blocks, and where j is a positive integer greater than (D−1); and (ii) an inverse of an approximate covariance matrix associated with the (j−D−1)th received block, where the approximate covariance matrix is a diagonal matrix of size L×L, and where L is a positive integer lower than 2N.

摘要: A system is configured to measure a forward error correction (FEC) decoding property associated with applying FEC decoding to FEC-encoded bits or symbols at a receiver device deployed in a communication network. The system is further configured to provide an assessment of operating conditions of the receiver device based on the FEC decoding property. In one example, the FEC decoding property comprises a distribution of a number of iterations of a FEC decoding operation applied to a plurality of FEC blocks processed within a period of time. In some examples, the FEC decoding property comprises any one of heat, temperature, current, voltage, active clock cycles, idle clock cycles, activity of parallel engines, activity of pipeline stages, and input or output buffer fill level of the FEC decoding. In some examples, the assessment is based on a comparison between the FEC decoding property and reference FEC data.

摘要: A super-frame for transmission in an optical communications system comprises two or more data frames and a parity frame. All frames in the super-frame have been encoded in accordance with a first Forward Error Correction (FEC) scheme. The parity frame is computed over the two or more data frames (prior to or concurrently with or after encoding via the first FEC scheme) according to a second FEC scheme. At a receiver, the super-frame is decoded in accordance with the first FEC scheme to generate a set of FEC decoded frames in which residual errors are clustered, that is, are non-Poisson. The second FEC scheme, which is particularly suited or designed to correct the clustered non-Poisson residual errors, is used to correct the residual errors.

摘要: Multiple receivers are comprised in a flexible coherent transceiver of a multi-span optical fiber network. Each of the multiple receivers is operative to handle communications on a respective channel. The multiple receivers measure optical characteristics. For each of the multiple receivers, the optical characteristics include optical nonlinear interactions on the respective channel, the optical nonlinear interactions being at least partially dependent from one span to another span. An optical power of a signal on each of the multiple channels is adjusted as a function of the optical characteristics.

摘要: Adjustment of one or more control parameters of a section of an optical fiber network involves taking measurements of optical signals in the section, deriving estimated data from the measurements and from knowledge of the section, where the estimated data is a function of optical nonlinearity and of amplified spontaneous emission, and applying one or more control algorithms using the estimated data to adjust the one or more control parameters.

摘要: Methods and systems of data symbol recovery in a coherent optical receiver of an optical communications system. A respective probabilistic phase error is calculated for each of a plurality of data symbol estimates. A phase rotation is calculated based on the probabilistic phase error estimates, using a filter function, and the phase rotation applied to at least one data symbol estimate to generate a corresponding rotated symbol estimate. Each rotated symbol estimate is processed to generate corresponding decision values of each data symbol.

摘要: In a coherent optical receiver of an optical communications system, methods and systems for receiving a data signal x(t) modulated on an optical signal. A linearly polarized LO light is generated, which has a frequency of f1=f0±Δf, where f0 is a frequency of a narrowband carrier of the optical signal, and Δf corresponds with a band-width fB of the data signal x(t). The LO light and a received light of the optical signal are heterodyned on a photodetector. An analog signal generated by the photodetector is low-pass filtered to generate a filtered signal, using a filter characteristic having a sharp cut-off at a frequency of Δf+nfB, where n is an integer multiple. An analog-to digital (A/D) converter samples the filtered signal at a sample rate of 2(Δf+nfB) to generate a corresponding multi-bit digital sample stream. The multi-bit digital sample stream is digitally processed to recover respective In-Phase and Quadrature components of the received light of the optical signal.
