There is provided a digital mixer including a plurality of functional blocks each having a CPU and a control program executed by the CPU which is capable of properly and easily controlling the version of the control program operated by the CPU of each functional block. When the power of the digital mixer is turned on, the respective versions of the functional blocks are acquired. Matching of the acquired versions of the functional blocks with the reference version is checked. When the checked versions of the functional blocks all match the reference version, the operation of the digital mixer is continued, and when at least one of the checked versions of the functional blocks mismatches the reference version, a warning is given to the user.

A first detection step is carried out for detecting when a new peripheral unit is connected to the main block. A second detection step is carried out for detecting a type of the new peripheral unit. An inquiry step is conducted for inquiring the new peripheral unit upon detection thereof about a type of a component equipped in the new peripheral unit and obtaining a reply indicating the type from the new peripheral unit. Thus, the main block can be configured according to the detected type of the new peripheral unit and the type of the component thereof indicated by the reply.

The panel has an operator manipulable to operate the mixing processor, and a display provided for displaying a state of the mixing processor. Further, a storage is provided for storing configuration patterns of the mixing processor in correspondence to various scenes. A retriever is provided for calling one of the various scenes and for retrieving the configuration pattern corresponding to the called scene from the storage; a selector provided for selecting one of a preview mode and a non-preview mode. A controller operates when the non-preview mode is selected for actually configuring the mixing processor according to the retrieved configuration pattern to thereby enable the mixing processor to reproduce the corresponding scene, and operates when the preview mode is selected for producing a preview of a configured state of the mixing processor according to the retrieved configuration pattern without actually configuring the mixing processor to thereby enable the display to present the preview.

Buttons in a parameter selection section correspond to parameters of each channels belonging to the current data set, and the buttons can turned on and off. When the current data set is to be recorded as a scene data set, settings of the recall setting window are also stored as part of the current data set. When the scene is to be recalled, only setting data of parameters, having been set as data belonging to the recall range, are recalled. Also, editing of a channel name is permitted in order to perform optimal name display for channel strips of the system in accordance with a form of use of the system.
