Disclosed is a divalent silver oxide cell having amorphous carbon and a current collector in the positive active material. Amorphous carbon is useful for quickly dropping the high voltage of the AgO which appears at the initiation of discharge to a lower constant voltage level. The current collector which is disposed in the positive active material reduces the internal resistance of the cell when operating at low ambient temperatures including room temperature.

The tuner module has a casing including an elongated recess into which a telescopic antenna can be stored, the recess conforming to the shape of the antenna. Switches are disposed within the recess, some of the switches having an exposed surface that conforms to the contour of the recess. The video display module is provided with a circuit for controlling the supply of power to other circuits according to detection of input of audio/video signals to the display modules.

A metal vapor discharge lamp comprises a discharge tube having a ceramic container into which a pair of electrodes and a discharge metal compound are sealed. The container comprises a first cylindrical portion, tapered portions, second cylindrical portions and third cylindrical portions. The third cylindrical portions are shrinkage-fitted to the second cylindrical portions. The electrodes are attached to the third cylindrical portion with a sealing member. An inner wall of the third cylindrical portions and the electrodes define a gap. The inner surface of the tapered portions and a central axis of the electrodes define an angle of 40°-80°. Thus, a metal vapor discharge lamp is provided whose discharge tube does not include disks among its parts, and which can maintain, over a long period of operation, good operating characteristics that depend only little on the lamp orientation.

The lamp has an arc tube including a discharge portion of translucent ceramic in which a discharge metal is filled and a pair of electrodes is disposed; small tubular portions coupled to both ends of the discharge portion; feeder bodies inserted into the small tubular portions; and a sealing material sealing the gap between the feeder body and the small tubular portion at the end portion opposite to the discharge portion. The end of the small tubular portions and the inner surface of the discharge portion define a discharge space. The feeder bodies are composed of a conductive cermet and connected to the electrodes. The ends of the feeder bodies extend at least to the ends of the small tubular portions. The temperature of the end of the sealing material on the discharge space side during the lamp operation is not more than 800° C.

The present invention aims at providing an image display apparatus capable of displaying both a television signal and an image signal supplied from a personal computer with a high picture quality on a high definition display unit having 1024 by 768 pixels. In order to achieve this object, an image display apparatus according to the present invention includes an NTSC-VGA conversion circuit for converting a television signal to a signal having 640 by 480 pixels and corresponding to the non-interlacing VGA standard, a switch unit for selecting and outputting either the signal outputted from the NTSC-VGA conversion circuit and an inputted image signal from a personal computer, and a VGA-XGA conversion circuit for converting a number of pixels of a signal outputted from the switch unit to a number of pixels 1024 by 768 substantially equivalent to the number of the display unit.
