摘要: A structure of a cylinder block includes the cylinder block having a number of cylinders; a plurality of bearing caps supporting a crankshaft along with the cylinder block; a plurality of bearing cap beams supporting the plural bearing caps; a number of cap bolts fastening the plural bearing caps and the bearing cap beam to the cylinder block; and beam bolts fixing the bearing cap beam to a skirt portion of the cylinder block; one or more baffles each of which protrudes from the bearing cap beam along a rotation path of a part of the crankshaft, and vertical walls engaging the plural bearing cap beam with the baffles in a vertical direction, so that the cylinder block is enhanced in stiffness and concurrently reduce friction caused by rotation of the crankshaft.

摘要: There is provided a V-type engine, in which deck cylinder parts of a cylinder block are offset in the same direction as a rotational direction of a crankshaft, and oil separation chambers are provided at an upper portion of the cylinder head displaced to a lower side by the offset. Therefore, an allowance in the axial direction of cylinders may be provided above a cylinder head of the deck cylinder parts on the lower side, and the capacity of the oil separation chambers is increased by the allowance so that the oil separation performance may be improved, while an increase in the total width and total height of an engine block is suppressed.

摘要: There is provided a V-type engine in which banks of an engine block are offset in the same direction as the rotational direction of a crankshaft so that the banks may be displaced toward an end of a vehicle body. On the offset side, engine accessory is mounted on a side of the engine block and below the banks. The width between the end of the engine accessory to which an impact is input first among component parts of the engine block and the end of the rear bank where the engine block moved due to the impact is abutted first on a vehicle body member is set to be shorter than in a conventional engine. Therefore, the crushable zone may be increased even in a limited engine compartment.

摘要: A mass gas flow sensor for measuring the mass flow rate of a gas through a passage, and a method of manufacture thereof. The sensor includes a substrate having a streamlined end surface which is to project upstream in the passage, upstream and downstream heating resistors formed on the substrate, protective films covering the resistors, and circuitry for applying current to the resistors so as to heat the resistors, the gas cooling the upstream resistor more than the downstream resistor. The circuitry also produces an electrical voltage responsive to differences in voltage across the upstream and downstream resistors, corresponding to the mass gas flow in the passage. In a mass production method of manufacture of a preferred embodiment, a composite substrate material is produced with hollow portions therein by joining a first integral wafer having a plurality of grooves with a second integral wafer which closes the grooves, and providing a plurality of resistors on the composite substrate material by photolithography and etching directly over the grooves before cutting the substrate material into a plurality of hollow substrates. One end surface of each of the hollow substrates is then tapered to provide a streamlined shape.
