摘要:
An apparatus and a method for supporting multicast communication in a broadband wireless access system are provided. A method of a Mobile Station (MS) for supporting multicast communication in a wireless access system includes acquiring decoding parameters by receiving an Advanced Air Interface Enhanced-Multicast and Broadcast Service configuration (AAI-E-MBS_CFG) message from a Base Station (BS), establishing an E-MBS service flow by sending and receiving AAI Dynamic Service Addition-request/response (AAI_DSA-REQ/RSP) messages to and from the BS, and decoding E-MBS MAP received from the BS through the established E-MBS service flow using the acquired decoding parameters. The E-MBS MAP includes information for decoding multicast bursts.

An apparatus and method for controlling sleep cycle synchronization of a sleep mode in a wireless communication system are provided. A method of operating a Mobile Station (MS) in a sleep mode state includes, if a traffic indication message and unicast data are not received during a listening window, transmitting one of a request message and a header to a Base Station (BS) to request a location of a next-scheduled listening window, and if a response for the one of the request message and the header is received, performing synchronization for a next sleep cycle.

A method for allocating a band Adaptive Modulation and Coding (AMC) channel in a wireless communication system that divides a full frequency band into a plurality of subcarrier bands and includes subchannels, each of which is a set of a predetermined number of neighbor subcarrier bands. Upon recognizing a need for a band AMC channel, a subscriber station (SS) sends a request for allocation of the band AMC channel to a base station (BS). Upon receiving the band AMC channel allocation request, the BS determines if it can allocate the band AMC channel requested by the SS, considering a resource situation of the BS, and transmits information on the determination to the SS.

A system and method for periodic ranging in sleep mode in a communication system are provided, in which an MS is allocated an uplink burst from a BS and transmits a first message in the allocated uplink burst to the BS, the first message indicating that the MS is alive during sleep mode.

Disclosed is a method for allocating a safety channel in a wireless communication system which divides a full frequency band into a plurality of subcarrier bands and includes subchannels, each of which is a set of a predetermined number of subbands, each of which is a set of a predetermined number of contiguous subcarriers, where the subchannels include a safety subchannel allocated to particular subscriber stations (SSs), which is unused in a neighbor base station. The method comprises the steps of: transmitting, by the SS, its channel quality information to the base station (BS) when a channel quality of a subchannel allocated to the SS is less than to predetermined reference channel quality; and allocating a safety subchannel to the SS, by the BS upon receiving the channel quality information indicating that the channel quality of the subchannel is less than to the reference channel quality.

A method for operating a base station for Multicast Broadcast Services (MBS) in a wireless communication system that uses a multi-carrier is provided. In the method, MBS capability exchange is performed on a terminal using a primary carrier. A first message for configuring at least one MBS service flow is received from the terminal. A second message is transmitted to the terminal in response to the first message. The second message includes switching information between the primary carrier and a secondary carrier. MBS data is transmitted using the secondary carrier.

A switching method and apparatus in a broadband wireless communication system is provided. A method of an Advanced Base Station (ABS) for a Multicast Broadcast Service (MBS) in the broadband wireless communication system includes transmitting to an Advanced Mobile Station (AMS) a message including identification information for a primary carrier that provides the MBS among multiple carriers supported by the ABS, switching to the primary carrier with respect to the AMS, and transmitting MBS data through the primary carrier.

A method for synchronizing connection identifiers (CIDs) in a communication system includes sending a first message for requesting addition of a service flow identified by a CID; sending a second message and, at the same time, setting a number of a frame where the second message is transmitted as a first start frame number; sending a third message and, at the same time, setting a number of a frame where the third message is transmitted as a second start frame number; performing a modulo operation on a frame having the first or second start frame number and its succeeding frames using a positive integer for each frame, and detecting a number of a frame where a result value of the modulo operation becomes zero; and simultaneously updating CID lists at a frame having the detected frame number with regard to a CID of the added service flow.
