    Abstract: A method of preparing a positive electrode active material which includes forming a pre-sintered mixture by adding a reaction mixture including a lithium raw material and a nickel-manganese-cobalt precursor to a first crucible and performing a primary heat treatment at a temperature of 500° C. to 800° C., and, after discharging the pre-sintered mixture from the first crucible, adding the pre-sintered mixture to a second crucible and performing a secondary heat treatment at a temperature of 700° C. to 1,000° C. to form a lithium nickel manganese cobalt-based positive electrode active material, wherein a volume of the pre-sintered mixture formed after the primary heat treatment is 20% to 50% of a volume of the reaction mixture added to the first crucible.

    Abstract: A positive electrode active material in a form of a single particle is configured so that after a positive electrode, which includes a positive electrode active material layer containing 80 wt % or more of the positive electrode active material based on a total weight of the positive electrode active material layer, is rolled, a density of the positive electrode active material layer after the rolling is 2.7 g/cm3 or more. When the positive electrode active material layer is analyzed by XRD (X-ray diffraction), a ratio of an area of a (003) peak to an area of all peaks identified in a 2θ range of 10° to 90° satisfies 30% or more. Also provided is a positive electrode including the same. The positive electrode active material is capable of achieving a battery with improved initial resistance characteristics and life characteristics.

    Abstract: A method for separating a transition metal from a waste positive electrode material includes step 1 of preparing a waste positive electrode material represented by Formula 1, step 2 of heat treating the waste positive electrode material in an inert gas atmosphere or an oxygen atmosphere to phase separate the waste positive electrode material into a lithium oxide and a metal oxide, step 3 of cooling an obtained product of step 2 to room temperature in an inert atmosphere, and step 4 of mixing a cooled product cooled to room temperature in step 3 with distilled water, and then filtering the mixture to leach a transition metal.
