Disclosed is a transparent display device. The transparent display device includes a first display panel, including a transmissive area and an emissive area where a first pixel including a plurality of subpixels displaying an image is provided, and a second display panel including a second pixel provided to overlap the emissive area and the transmissive area of the first display panel, the second display panel being provided on a first surface of the first display panel. The second pixel of the second display panel controls an amount of light incident on the first display panel, thereby preventing a visibility of an image displayed by the first display panel from being reduced by external light.

There are provided a light control apparatus, a method for manufacturing the light control apparatus, and a display apparatus including the light control apparatus. The light control apparatus includes a first substrate and a second substrate facing each other, and a plurality of liquid crystal units between the first substrate and the second substrate, and the plurality of liquid crystal units includes a first liquid crystal unit having a droplet including a liquid crystal and a polymer and configured as a polymer dispersed liquid crystal (PDLC) and a second liquid crystal unit which is disposed on or under the first liquid crystal unit and configured as a guest-host liquid crystal (GHLC) including a liquid crystal and a coloring member.

A light shielding apparatus that may transmit or shield light by using a plurality of PDLC layers, a method of fabricating the light shielding apparatus, and a transparent display device including the light shielding apparatus are discussed. The light shielding apparatus can include first and second substrates facing each other; a first electrode on the first substrate; a second electrode on the second substrate; and first and second polymer dispersed liquid crystal layers between the first electrode and the second electrode, wherein the first polymer dispersed liquid crystal layer includes first droplets having first liquid crystals, and the second polymer dispersed liquid crystal layer includes second droplets having second liquid crystals and first dichroic dyes.
