Embodiments of the disclosure relate to a display device and a display driving method. Specifically, there may be provided a display device comprising a display panel including a plurality of subpixels and a plurality of driving voltage lines supplying a driving voltage to the plurality of subpixels, a plurality of data driving circuits supplying a data voltage to the display panel, a timing controller controlling the plurality of data driving circuits to supply a compensated data voltage according to a position of the display panel, wherein in the compensated data voltage, a first compensation gain for at least some subpixels is varied depending on positions corresponding to the plurality of data driving circuits in a first direction of the display panel, and a second compensation gain for at least some subpixels is varied depending on distances from the plurality of data driving circuits in a second direction of the display panel.

The display controlling apparatus that is driven in a paper mode and includes a backlight includes an image processing device that first converts a gradation value of an input image so as to have image characteristics of the paper mode, and second converts the first converted gradation value of the input image so as to have a upper limit gradation value is scaled up to the maximum gradation value, and a backlight brightness determining unit that determines brightness of light irradiated by the backlight to be lowered in response to the second conversion of the gradation value.

An image processing method and apparatus using the image processing method are provided. The apparatus comprises a processor configured to scale color values of input image data, thereby simulating the optical characteristics of paper. The simulation takes into consideration varying ambient light conditions around the display to imitate the optical characteristics of physical paper in the same ambient light conditions.
