摘要:
Disclosed is a curable composition suitable for use as a coating, adhesive, or the like which comprises a storage-stable, liquid composition comprising an isocyanate-functional compound (e.g. monomer, oligomer, or polymer), an epoxy component, and an alkylating agent; and a tertiary amine catalyst precursor. Upon admixing of the liquid composition and tertiary amine, the tertiary amine forms a quaternary ammonium salt in situ for achieving cross-linking of said isocyanate-functional compound.
摘要:
The present invention is addressed a formulation curable in the presence of an amine and containing one or more of a polyol or polymercapto resin, a polyisocyanate cross-linking agent, optionally a organic vehicle, and a tin catalyst complex. The present invention comprises the catalyst complex being formed from a metal catalyst and a complexing sulfonic acid in an equivalent ratio of complexing sulfonic acid to metal catalyst of greater than 2:1. Such curable formulation may be compounded into a coating, an adhesive (including a structural adhesive), a caulk, a foundry binder, or the like. Besides having excellent shelf life, long periods of open time are experienced with the novel catalyzed formulation. However, upon exposure to an amine, the catalyst complex becomes activated and then is effective to catalyze the NCO--OH reaction or the NCO--SH reaction to effect cure of the formulation.

Disclosed is an activatable catalyst which is effective for the reaction of a hydroxyl compound and an isocyanate. Preferably, the catalyst is utilized in the cure of a coating composition of a polyol and a polyisocyanate. The activatable catalyst is activated in the presence of an amine activator or heat and comprises the reaction product of a metal catalyst selected from a tin catalyst, a bismuth catalyst, and mixtures thereof; and a molar excess of a complexing agent. The complexing agent is selected from a mercapto compound, a polyphenol characterized by being reactable with an isocyanate group in the presence of a tertiary amine activator, and mixtures thereof. A single polyol resin may bear both the complexing functionality and the activatable catalyst. Advantageusly, the polyol and polyisocyanate both are aliphatic.

A composition capable of radiation activated catalysis is provided. The composition comprises a metal compound, a mercapto compound and an olefinic compound. Radiation curable urethane compositions comprising the disclosed composition are also provided. The radiation curable urethane compositions comprise the disclosed composition, a hydroxyl compound and an isocyanate compound. Activation of the composition by radiation in a urethane formulation provides for an efficient method of curing the urethane composition. Coating and adhesive compositions comprising the radiation curable urethane compositions are also provided. In addition, methods for coating and bonding substrates are disclosed.
摘要:
A method of producing a flexible laminate and a flexible laminate produced by the method are provided. The method involves laminating flexible substrates with a urethane adhesive and allowing the urethane adhesive to cure. The urethane adhesive comprises at least one polyisocyanate, at least one polyfunctional curative, at least one metal based catalyst and a catalyst blocking agent. The catalyst blocking agent allows for improved control of the curing rate of the urethane adhesive in the flexible laminate. The curing rate of the urethane adhesive can be controlled with heat or actinic radiation or both. The method allows for faster and more economical production of flexible laminates.

The subject invention relates to a foundry binder system that cures in the presence of a volatile amine curing catalyst. The binder system comprises (a) a compound containing at least two active methylene hydrogen atoms, (b) an organic polyisocyanate (c) a reactive unsaturated acrylic monomer and/or polymer, (d) an oxidizing agent, and preferably (e) an epoxy component. The foundry binders are used for making foundry mixes. The foundry mixes are used to make foundry shapes that are used to make metal castings.

Polyesters containing tertiary ester linkages and pendant methylene unsaturation along the polymer chain are prepared from dialkyl 2,2-dimethyl-4-methyleneglutarate by transesterification with sterically structured polyols, preferably neopentyl glycol. The resultant sterically hindered polyesters are useful as hardeners and resin binders for high solids coatings.

Improved coating compositions comprise a coreactive polymeric mixture comprising a reactive emulsion polymer produced by copolymerizing ethylenic monomers in the presence of glycoluril dispersed in water to provide an in-situ blend of reactive polymer and glycoluril. Upon heat curing, the glycoluril cross-links with the reactive in-situ formed emulsion polymer.
