    摘要: Flame retardant polyphenylene ether resin compositions are described in which the flame retardant agent is a mixture (by weight) of the following:(a) about 1.5% to about 3.0% of: ##STR1## (b) about 15.0% to about 20.0% of: ##STR2## (c) about 23.0% to about 28.0% of: ##STR3## (d) about 47.0% to about 56.0% of: ##STR4## wherein R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 are each selected from the class consisting of hydrogen, methyl and ethyl, it being understood that when one of R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 is hydrogen the other is ethyl and when one of R.sub.1 and R.sub.2 is methyl the other is methyl, the resulting two methyl groups being in the 2,4-, 2,5-, 2,3-, 3,4- and 3,5-positions, it being further understood that the ethyl groups are almost entirely in the meta (m) and para (p) positions.

    摘要: A process is provided for preparing an aryl diphosphate ester containing less than 5% by weight of triarylphosphate. The process reacts a solution of a dihydroxy aromatic compound and an excess of phosphorus oxychloride in a nonaqueous solvent having a boiling point greater than 110.degree. C. The excess phosphorus oxychloride and part of the solvent are distilled from the solution at atmospheric pressure and the intermediate, a diphosphotetrachloridate solution, is reacted with a monohydric aryl compound. After extracting with an aqueous, alkaline solution the product is recovered by distilling off the remaining solvent.

    摘要: Liquid mixtures of trialkylphosphine oxides, useful as antistats in thermoplastic polymers, are obtained by alkylating excess phosphine with a mixture of higher .alpha.-olefins to give a mixture of higher alkylated phosphines and unreacted phosphine and alkylating that mixture with a lower .alpha.-olefin. This method provides a larger percentage of higher alkyl groups and a lower percentage of lower alkyl groups compared to alkylating the phosphine with all of the mixed .alpha.-olefins in a single reaction. The shift in higher alkyl groups decreases the volatility of the trialkylphosphine mixture and is an advantage when preparing plastic compositions at higher formulation temperatures.

    摘要: An environmentally acceptable process is provided to synthesize a 2-(alkylbenzoyl)benzoic acid suitable for synthesizing a 2-alkylanthraquinone without further purification. Usually the crude product is isolated from the reaction mixture by a succession of steps which generate a large volume of aqueous waste. The present process eliminates or decreases these wastes and produces a product of sufficient purity for synthesizing as 2-alkylanthraquinone.

    摘要: Arsenic is removed from elemental phosphorus by treating it with an oxidized form of iodine in a sufficient amount and for a sufficient time to obtain the amount of arsenic reduction desired. When iodine is the source of the oxidized iodine an oxidant is additionally used. An oxidant is optionally used when an oxidized iodine is used. The oxidant also reduces the amount of antimony present in the elemental phosphorus, and a dilute oxidant rinse removes any residual iodine source and also results in a water-white liquid phosphorus.

    摘要: A process is provided for making halogen-substituted triaryl phosphate esters which are normally solid under ambient conditions. The process comprises reacting a halogenated phenol with phosphorus oxychloride in the presence of a magnesium chloride catalyst above the melting point of the desired product. After the reaction is complete the product is recovered by adding an alcohol, such as, pentanol, 2-ethyl hexanol or hexanol and cooling the resulting mixture below the melting point of the product.
