Abstract:
A doll which can hold any of several objects and which plays a message corresponding to the particular object being held, including a hand with an aperture for receiving posts on the objects, a group of elements with holes aligned with the aperture, a slide for pulling the elements out of alignment with the aperture if they are not held against movement by the post of an object, and a cable extending from the slide to a phonograph in the body to select one of several messages.
Abstract:
A toy vehicle which moves forward along a drawstring toward a stationary pull ring as the phonograph plays, comprising a spring-powered phonograph within the vehicle that is wound by pulling out the drawstring. The drawstring retracts into the phonograph as a record is played, so the phonograph acts like a winch to move it along the drawstring. The phonograph includes a tone arm with a needle for playing the record, and a separate lift arm that lifts the tone arm and needle from the record and carries them to the periphery of the record as the drawstring is pulled.
Abstract:
A spring motor for toys and other mechanisms whose speed is regulated by a governor and that includes a constant-torque spring which can be wound onto a power drum or unwound therefrom onto a takeup spool, wherein a ratchet is employed to uncouple the governor from the spring during winding of the spring thereon, to reduce the power required to wind the spring. A ratchet wheel coupled to the governor lies within the power drum, and the end portion of the spring that is fixed to the drum has an outer part that extends to the ratchet wheel to serve as a pawl that drives it only as the spring unwinds.
Abstract:
An indexing mechanism for playing a plurality of messages on a phonograph record sequentially by stopping the record at predetermined reversely-rotated positions following playing of each message. A first stop on the record engages a third stop on a carrier frictionally coupled to the record for movement thereby during reverse rotation until a second stop interrupts movement of the carrier with the record coincident to movement of the third stop into the path of travel of the first stop. The carrier again moves with the record during forward movement thereof to move the third stop out of the path of travel of the first stop when the next message is played.
Abstract:
A doll with a simulated wristwatch whose hands can be set to different times and with a phonograph which plays one of twelve sayings that state the time shown by the hands of the watch. The phonograph includes a record with twelve grooves, the grooves having lead-in portions spaced about the periphery of the record. When a cord is pulled to wind a spring motor, the record turns in reverse until it hits a stop, the stop therefore determining which groove will be engaged by the needle when the record is played. The stop can be shifted to choose a different record groove, by turning the hands on the watch, so that the saying which is played always corresponds to the time shown by the watch.
Abstract:
Apparatus in the form of a backpack for holding an astronaut figure, which plays a recorded saying as the pack and figure are lowered to the ground. The pack has a phonograph with a turntable that is rotated to play the record by pulling a string out of the pack. The string is pulled out by holding an outer end of the string and allowing the pack to slowly fall to the ground. The phonograph is contained in a housing, and the housing is supported on a pair of elongated members representing struts, the members having an integral strap for holding the toy figure to the housing.
