Abstract: A cognitive load estimation system. The system includes an-in ear device (IED) configured to be placed within an ear canal of a user. The IED includes a first set of functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS) optodes that are configured to capture first fNIRS signal data representing hemodynamic changes in a brain of the user. The system further includes at least one electroencephalography (EEG) electrode configured to capture electrical signals corresponding to brain activity of the user. The system further includes a controller configured to filter the first fNIRS signal data based in part on the electrical signals to generate filtered fNIRS signal data. The controller is further configured to estimate a cognitive load of the user based on the filtered fNIRS signal data.

Abstract: Audio data comprising speech is received at a first client device executing an application in an artificial reality environment, in which the first client device is associated with a speaking user. A determination is then made as to whether an object associated with the speaking user is within a field of view of a listening user of a second client device executing the application. The audio data is modified based at least in part on a set of rules and whether the object associated with the speaking user is within the field of view of the listening user. The modified data is then communicated to the listening user of the second client device.

Abstract: An eye tracking system tracks a position and an orientation of one or more eyes of a user of the eye tracking system and determines a gaze point of the user based on the position and the orientation of the user's eye(s). An audio system coupled to the eye tracking system then detects a sound in an environment of the user. A change in the gaze point of the user is detected at the eye tracking system. Based on the change in the gaze point, a determination is made as to whether the user's attention has shifted. Responsive to determining the user's attention has shifted, the sound is modified at the audio system and the modified sound is then communicated to the user.

Abstract: An apparatus that facilitates and/or supports stabilizing apparent azimuth angles of audio signals in environments of varying acoustic fidelity may include an eyewear frame dimensioned to be worn by a user. The apparatus may also include circuitry coupled to the eyewear frame and configured to (1) obtain an audio signal originating from a sound source in an environment of the user, (2) manipulate an azimuthal angle of the audio signal relative to a location of the sound source in the environment toward a midline feature of the user, and (3) provide the audio signal for auditory display to the user such that the manipulated azimuthal angle causes the user to perceive the audio signal as originating from the location of the sound source. Various other apparatuses, systems, and methods are also disclosed.

Abstract: An artificial reality system receives information identifying a physical object and location information describing a geographical location associated with the artificial reality system, in which the information identifying the physical object includes a trackable feature associated with the physical object. Upon receiving a request from a user to locate the physical object, the artificial reality system determines a most recent geographical location associated with the physical object based at least in part on the trackable feature and the location information. The artificial reality system then communicates a set of spatial audio cues to the user, in which the set of spatial audio cues guides the user to the most recent geographical location associated with the physical object.

Abstract: A real-time in-ear EEG signal verification system. The system includes an in-ear device (IED) configured to be placed within an ear canal of a user and a controller. The IED includes a speaker configured to present a calibration audio signal to the user, the calibration audio signal being embedded with a predetermined audible feature, and an in-ear electrode configured to be in contact with an inner surface of the ear canal. The controller is configured to instruct the speaker to present the calibration audio signal to the user, and generate neural signal data based on electrical signals from the in-ear electrode. The electrical signals correspond to brain activity of the user in response to the predetermined audible feature. The controller is configured to determine a quality of the generated neural signal data, and perform an action based on the quality of the neural signal data.
