Abstract:
A method and apparatus for a back channel implemented by a transmitting device in a half-duplex communication system includes monitoring for voice activity detection, indicative of an absence of human speech, while the transmitting device is transmitting on a half-duplex channel of the half-duplex communication system; transmitting a notification of a back channel opportunity to other devices on the half-duplex channel responsive to the voice activity detection; and switching to a receiving mode to receive data on the back channel while still maintaining control of the half-duplex channel. A method for a back channel implemented by a receiving device is also described.
Abstract:
A public safety (PS) device has a channel operating configuration during communications over a PS network. A key term associated with a PS incident is registered on the PS network. The PS network identifies any communication on the PS network that refers to the registered key term, modifies the channel operating configuration in response to such identification, and alerts a PS person operating the PS device to an identified communication by transmitting the identified communication to the PS person via the modified channel operating configuration.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus are provided for capturing video so that compression and quality can be optimized. During operation, a video recording system will employ a learning algorithm to determine periods when a light bar is on, or active. Reference Intra frames are then stored and used for the subsequent creation of predictive frames. More particularly, at least a first Intra frame is stored and used for creating predictive frames during periods of light bar activity. In a similar manner, a second Intra frame is stored and used for creating predictive frames during periods of light bar inactivity. By learning the light bar pattern, Intra frames can be more intelligently selected, resulting in optimized compression and quality.
Abstract:
A method, a mobile device, and a wireless system provide wireless local communication systems and methods from Wide Area Network (WAN) fallback allowing proximate users to maintain connectivity therebetween while WAN connectivity is lost. The wireless local communication systems and methods leverage access point credentials for the WAN to set up local wireless communication amongst the mobile devices when WAN connectivity is lost or when commanded to do so. Local mobile device users can maintain communication such as in a talkgroup while WAN connectivity is disrupted or undesired. The systems and methods include an algorithm where a first mobile device identifies the loss of WAN connectivity and becomes a WAN access point for other proximate mobile devices which share common preconfigured credentials. Subsequent mobile devices which detect the loss of WAN connectivity can associate with the AP thereby maintaining local communication using local wireless connectivity techniques.
Abstract:
A method and user terminal are provided that analyze social media by assembling a cluster of multiple social media contents, wherein each social media content of the multiple social media contents has one or more associated attributes, determining weights in association with the social media contents included in the cluster, and determining a reliability level of the cluster based on the determined weights. In various embodiments, determining weights may include determining a weight associated with each of one or more attributes shared by two or more of the multiple social media contents of the cluster and/or determining a social media content weight for each of two or more social media contents sharing an attribute. In still other embodiments, the method and user terminal may re-determine the reliability level in response to adding new social media content to the cluster.
Abstract:
A communication system (100) provides collaboration between narrowband communication devices (102) and broadband communication devices (104) operating over different networks. The communication devices (102, 104) are linked to provide peer-to-peer communication that supports the dissemination of public safety information to a public safety personnel user utilizing the devices. Applications within the devices (102, 104) automatically control features amongst the plurality of devices for redundancy of critical information, removal of non-critical information and power management. Context information can also be examined and shared between amongst the devices.
Abstract:
A method and apparatus for creating a geofence is provided herein. During operation, a pressure and/or velocity of a touch or swipe on a touch screen is measured during the geofence creation. The geofence will be created with parameters based on the pressure and/or velocity of the touch or swipe.
Abstract:
A method and device enables transferring a call between devices of a single user. The method comprises pairing, over a master-less communication link, a narrowband communication device operating in a narrowband communication system and a broadband communication device operating in a broadband communication system. A radio identifier is shared between the narrowband communication device and the broadband communication device, enabling call details to be transferred between the narrowband communication device and the broadband communication device. An operational status of either the narrowband communication device or the broadband communication device is then evaluated. When a call associated with particular call details is prior established on both the narrowband communication system and the broadband communication system, the call can be transferred, using the radio identifier and the call details, and based on the operational status, from one to the other of the broadband communication device and the narrowband communication device.
Abstract:
A mobile device collaboration method includes provisioning a first mobile device with unique user identification related to a role and skill set of an associated user of the first mobile device, detecting a second mobile device responsive to a condition at the first mobile device, communicating the unique user identification to the second mobile device, authenticating the first mobile device through the second mobile device communicating the unique user identification to an external database, and providing access for the first mobile device through the second mobile device if the authenticating is successful. A mobile device collaboration system and a mobile device are also described.
