    摘要: An error detecting and correcting apparatus to detect and correct errors in code words to be subjected to a digital recording and reproducing operations by use of a recording medium. The apparatus is characterized by an interface method with respect to the host computer which generates digital information to be written on a recording medium or which utilizes the digital information read from the recording medium. The host computer supplies address data to a buffer memory circuit controlled by the error detecting and correcting apparatus through an address bus and a data bus connected between the host computer and the error detecting and correcting apparatus, thereby effecting input/output operations of digital data, namely, information codes. To this end, according to the apparatus of the present invention, only the information symbols necessary on the host computer side are allocated to a consecutive space of the buffer memory and the control codes and check symbols are controlled and are stored such that the information symbols are located in particular addresses of the buffer memory space.

    摘要: This invention relates to an optical disk, in which part of the sectors are reproduction-only sectors and remaining sectors are recording-reproduction sectors. Data and first error correcting codes for the data are recorded in advance in the reproduction-only sectors, and second error correcting codes for data over a plurality of reproduction-only sectors are recorded in advance in other reproduction-only sectors. At data reproduction, only sectors which are unrecoverable by the first error correction codes undergo error correction by the second error correcting codes, and the corrected data with the first error correcting codes being appended are recorded in the recording-reproduction sectors. Later on, when data in sectors unrecoverable by the first error correcting codes are needed, the above-mentioned recorded sectors are read out. Data storage about twice the capacity of the data recording areas is made possible by adopting the PWM (pulse width modulation) recording for the data reproduction-only area and the PPM (pulse position modulation) recording for the recording-reproduction area.

    摘要: A deinterleaving and error correction system which is advantageously utilized in a playback system of an optical recording disk apparatus. As each block of sector data, encoded for example with the Reed-Solomon error correction code with block interleaving, is read from the disk, the positions within the data block at which drop-out of the playback signal occurs are respectively stored in a memory in which the data symbols are also stored, with these drop-out positions being stored as error position data. Error correction processing is executed using the error position data in conjunction with the code words, enabling the maximum number of correctable errors for each sector to be substantially increased using a simple system configuration.
