    摘要: An ultrasound waveguide that is attachable to an ultrasound probe so as to identify a target area on a target object. The ultrasound waveguide has an ultrasound transducer coupling signal to be transmitted through a guide means. The ultrasound waveguide also has a positioning means for positioning the guide means in relation to the target area on the target object. The guide means is provided with a channel that provides a discontinuity within the guide means that causes a discontinuity in the ultrasound signal emitted by the probe. The presence of this discontinuity allow for proper alignment of the ultrasound waveguide with the target object.

    摘要: The invention relates to a thin film aluminium nitride ultrasound transducer, a method of manufacture the transducer and a test component upon which a thin film aluminium nitride ultrasound transducer is deposited. The aluminium nitride film may be (002) orientated with its c-axis normal to the surface of a substrate made of glass or a composite material. The invention also includes a system for non-destructive testing wherein a pulse is emitted from an ultrasound transducer to propagate through the test component and a reflected pulse is detected by the aluminium nitride thin film ultrasound transducer. The ultrasound transducer can be integrated into engine components such as bearings.

The transducer having layers of a single crystal piezoelectric material stacked in a multilayer arrangement and a polymer material geometrically arranged within each layer to form a 3-1 connectivity piezoelectric and polymer composite. The multilayer arrangement includes at least two layers of different thickness. The structure allows the generation of odd and even harmonics to significantly increase bandwith without reducing signal amplitude or efficiency.
