The present invention relates to an absorbent structure suitable in, or being an adult or infant diaper or feminine hygiene article, comprising a water-absorbing material comprising water-absorbing particles that comprise a film coating, comprising an elastic film-forming polymer and an antioxidant.The invention also relates to an absorbent structure comprising a water absorbent material obtainable by a process of: a) spray-coating water-absorbing polymeric particles with an elastic film-forming polymer in a fluidized bed reactor at a temperature in the range from 0° C. to 150° C. and b) heat-treatment of the coated polymeric particles at a temperature above 50° C., wherein in step a) and/or b) an antioxidant is added.

A process for postcrosslinking a water-absorbing polymer comprises said polymer being treated with a postcrosslinker and, during or after said treating, being postcrosslinked and dried by temperature elevation, said postcrosslinker being a compound of the formula I where R1, R2, R3, R4, R5, R6, R7, R8 and R9 are each independently hydrogen, C1-C12-alkyl, C2-C12-alkenyl or C6-C12-aryl, wherein C1-C12-alkyl, C2-C12-alkenyl or C6-C12-aryl may be halogen substituted. The liquid-absorbing polymers are useful in hygiene articles and packaging materials.

A process for producing sodium acrylate polymers by free-radical polymerization of sodium acrylate with or without other monomers in an aqueous medium, which comprises using sodium acrylate in the form of an aqueous solution or dispersion obtainable by dissolving or dispersing solid sodium acrylate in an aqueous medium. The polymers thus obtainable have an improved color number and a lower residual monomer content than conventional comparable polymers.
