    摘要: In a method and a system for organizing not yet implanted implantable medical devices, each having a telemetry unit associated therewith, a local administration unit transmits an inquiry signal to at least one of the telemetry units and receives a return signal therefrom in response to the inquiry signal. The return signal establishes the existence of the medical device, and the local administration unit, or a remote external unit in communication with the local administration unit, can then determine a course of action to be taken, such as a recall procedure, invoicing or taking inventory, based on the return signal from the medical device.

    摘要: In a method for providing software to an implantable medical device system, including an implanted medical device and a presentation unit in communication with each other, a most current version of software for operating one or more of these system units is stored at a server which is remote from the implanted medical device system. Upon each start-up of the presentation unit, a communication link is established between the server and the presentation unit, and information is provided from the presentation unit to the server identifying the software which is respectively currently stored in one or more of the system units. The server determines whether the currently stored software in the system units requires an update and, if so, the server downloads the software version stored at the server to any of the system units which is/are in need of updated software.

    摘要: An implantable medical device is synchronized for operation with an external device in communication therewith, by designating one of the implantable medical device or the external device as a master device, and the other as a slave device. In a first time interval, a reference time associated with the first time interval is transmitted from the master device to the slave device. The slave device sets a clock associated therewith based on the reference time and returns, in a second time interval, a second reference time generated by the slave device based on the first reference time. The master device confirms that the slave device is synchronized therewith if the second reference time is associated with the second time interval. The implantable medical device can then use its synchronized clock for time-stamping physiological data to be transmitted to the external device for processing.

    摘要: In a method and a system for initiating communication with an implantable medical device to conduct a wireless communication session between the implantable medical device and an external programmer device. A directional antenna is employed for initiating communication between a programmer device and an implantable medical device (IMD). The IMD is targeted by the programmer device by having an operator of the programmer device orient the directional antenna toward the IMD and transmitting a communication-initiating signal from the programmer to the IMD via the directional antenna. The directional antenna has a directional characteristic and communication range. the IMD responds to the communication-initiating signal by sending identification information to the programmer. the programmer may then use this identification to establish a communication session with the IMD targeted by the directional antenna.
