The holding member can replace one or more strands of the cable, be placed inside an interstice of the cable, be placed in between various layers of the cable, or placed in the jacket of the cable. At least one strength member may be adjacent to and/or attached to the holding member to provide additional protection for the optic fiber.

摘要: A method and an apparatus for the high speed shaping of wires to be used to make a compact stranded cable are disclosed. A plurality of roll pairs for shaping the cross section of a wire in a peripheral groove are mounted to the layhead of a strander apparatus. The rolls of each pair are supported on axles, the axes of which are maintained parallel to each other. At least one of the rolls of each pair is mounted on an axle which is parallelly adjustable toward and away from the other axle. A single adjustment screw is provided for urging the adjustable axle in a direction to engage the peripheries of the rolls.

摘要: A method of manufacture and a resultant cable structure of elliptical stranded cable which optimizes the use of existing conventional stranding machines. In accordance with the present invention, one or more layers of shaped, non-circular, wires are interposed to provide support between the inner core of substantially round wires each having essentially the same diameter and the outer layer of round wires of different diameters, which outer layer includes round wires of different diameters which are arranged to provide the minor and major axes of the elliptical cable. The shaped wires are preferably trapezoidal in shape. Alternatively, the shaped wires may be arcuately shaped elliptical wires subtending an angle determined by dividing 360.degree. by the number of shaped wires (for example, 30.degree. for a twelve wire layer) and having an aspect ratio (ratio of major axis X dimension to minor axis Y dimension) sufficient to provide support between the inner core and outer layer of round wires. As a result of the use of such wires, the elliptical cable can be made by using the smallest capacity machine for a given size of cable, thereby optimizing the use of such machinery and minimizing the time spent in stranding.

摘要: A method and apparatus for assigning color values (or gray scale) to picture display locations. A large frame buffer is written into with each memory location (preferably one bit) corresponding to a separate element of an image. The frame buffer contents are then mapped into a smaller space. The frame buffer memory has a color value assigned to each location of the memory. The memory has a larger number of locations than the number of color picture display locations. Each location is also assigned one of a plurality of weights. A number of color patterns are created and stored, with each color pattern being a bit pattern designed to produce the desired color when applied to the color values of the memory locations. A representation of a desired image is written into the memory using the color patterns, with each memory location corresponding to a separate element of the image. A group of bits in adjacent memory locations are combined with their weighting factors to produce each color value for each color picture display location.

摘要: An improved apparatus for collecting, storing, transporting and dumping cropped (cut) sections of continuously cast bar. The present invention is embodied in a dumpable crop bar container generally comprising a yoke and rear stanchion assembly surrounding and pivotally attached to a receptacle and front stanchion assembly by an axle and sleeve assembly. A conventional forklift is used to transport the present invention and to discharge collected crop bar from it. The forklift pushes the front stanchions against a stationary curb, forcing them to pivot inward and upward on the axle which cause the receptacle rigidly affixed thereto to pivot upward and outward. The base of the receptacle pivots to almost vertical and all of the crop bar is dumped out. As the fork lift backs away from the stationary curb, the weight of the receptacle and front stanchion assembly returns it to its original position.
