A sheet bar having a thickness of 20 to 50 mm, as continuously cast by a sheet bar caster, is passed as it is through a first sheet bar twister and is then wound in an up-end state into an up-end sheet bar coil. Then, this up-end sheet bar coil is rewound, passed through a second sheet bar twister, finish-rolled and wound into a hot coil. As compared with the slabbing—high draft rolling process of the prior art, the invention is advantageous in that it can improve the quality, production yield and production efficiency and can reduce the cost for an apparatus such as the cost for its construction and maintenance.

In a roll type straightener, a barrel assembly including a pair of rolls (3, 3'), tightening male and female screws (5, 4), displacement male and female screws (14, 13) is mounted on a main shaft (8). The periphery of the respective female screws (4, 13) have a plurality of notches (22), with which pawls (18a, 19a) of levers (18, 19) are engageable for preventing the female screws (4, 13) from rotation with the main shaft (8) by a drive source. Upon the adjustment of barrel width, the pawl is selectively engaged with the notch (22) of the tightening female screw (4) or both female screws (4, 13), so that the female screws drive the mating male screws (5, 14) in the axial direction to displace one of the rolls (3') to a predetermined position, as the main shaft (8) rotates. The operation sequence is controlled in a fully automatic manner by a controller (23) while monitoring the rotation of the main shaft (8) by a detector (20).

The present invention provides a rolling roller for rolling steel sections and that can have the roller width changed while not having a drive mechanism for changing the roller width provided to the rolling roller itself, thereby having a simple structure that facilitates exchange, and also provides a rolling mill suitable for use with such a rolling roller. The rolling roller has rolling wheels on a roller shaft and a sleeve and that engage the sleeve with respect to the roller shaft. In addition, the sleeve and the roller shaft are tightened and engaged at a place other than the inner side of the roller wheel and oil injection to the place of tightening and engagement is performed via hydraulic fluid supply paths formed inside the roller shaft.
