摘要: A tactile sensing apparatus having a piezoelectric energizing layer with a plurality of conductors disposed on one surface of a piezoelectric material and a plurality of conductors disposed on the opposite surface of the piezoelectric material, the plurality of conductors having electrical connections connected to electrical energizing means. An electrical insulating layer disposed adjacent the piezoelectric energizing layer. A second piezoelectric sensing layer is disposed adjacent the insulating layer, and has conducting surfaces disposed on opposite surfaces thereof. The conductors in the piezoelectric energizing layer provide N.times.M energizing areas with N+M electrical connections to the energizing layer. Further apparatus may include an oscillator, an optional amplifier and a switching means or multiplexer for the input signal. The apparatus may optionally have more than one piezoelectric energizing layer as well as more than one piezoelectric sensing layer. PVF.sub.2 is the preferred piezoelectric material. An optional base material and protective layer may be used.A method of operating the tactile sensor includes providing a variable frequency electrical signal at a frequency and amplitude adapted to energize the energizing areas. The signal is switched to the conductors to energize selected energizing areas of the energizing layer in a predetermined sequence. The signal generated in the sensing layer that varies in frequency and amplitude in response to an object in contact with the tactile sensor is processed for frequency and amplitude information to determine the characteristics of the object such as shape, force or weight.

摘要: An access site disconnection system and method are disclosed. RFID sensors are sensitive to moisture and their presence may not be detected if the sensor is wetted. When a patient receives dialysis treatment, wetness may arise from blood if the access needle becomes disconnected from the access site. At least one RFID sensor is mounted on or near gauze or other absorbent material placed adjacent the access site. After the sensors are placed, the dialysis machine and RFID control circuit may be initialized and dialysis treatment, such as hemodialysis, begun. If blood leaks from the access site, such as if the access needle is dislodged, the RFID sensor is wetted and sends a different or no response to periodic inquiries from an RFID reader. A signal is sent to a controller or to an output device to raise an alert or sound an alarm.

The compact and convenient device includes a housing of such size that it can be held in a user's one hand with an exit opening in the housing for directing the aerosol to the user's mouth. The housing encloses a dispensing system for containing the liquid to be aerosolized and delivering it to an electrohydrodynamic apparatus and an electrohydrodynamic apparatus for aerosolizing the liquid and delivering the aerosol to the exit opening. The electrohydrodynamic apparatus produces a cloud of aerosolized liquid droplets having a monodispersed respirable droplet size and near zero velocity. The aerosolizing apparatus includes a plurality of spray sites each having a tip end, the spray sites cooperating with a charge source to result in an aerosolized spray from at least one tip end, a plurality of discharge electrodes downstream of the tip ends, and a plurality of reference electrodes downstream of the plurality of discharge electrodes.
