    摘要: The invention relates to a new light pipe (313) for providing backlighting (312) of a flat-panel display (311) by means of at least one light source so that the light pipe has at least one surface which comprises patterns. The patterns have diffraction properties for conducting the light in the direction of the display, and the patterns comprise uniform, mutually different areas having a certain distribution on the surface of the light pipe. The local outcoupling efficiency of the light pipe depends on the characteristic properties of the patterns, which are dependent on the distance to the light source or its wavelength.

    摘要: A light source arrangement is used for providing illumination to an essentially planar area (405) in an electronic device. The arrangement comprises an encapsulated semiconductor light source (402) in the vicinity of an edge of an essentially planar light guide (404). Light emitted by the encapsulated semiconductor light source is to be coupled into the light guide through the edge. The encapsulated semiconductor light source comprises a semiconductor chip (301) encapsulated in an encapsulation block (302) that comprises a curved surface facing the edge of the planar light guide. The encapsulation block (302) has also a D-shaped cross section in a plane perpendicular to the plane of the essentially planar lightguide so that the arcuate part of the D corresponds to said curved surface. The encapsulation block extends to a predetermined distance in an extension direction locally perpendicular to the plane of said D-shaped cross section.

The display can be an LCD with a top polarizer and a bottom polarizer. The antireflection structure is imparted on the top polarizer by a roller embossing process. In particular, the embossing is carried out in the same manufacturing process when the polarizer is produced. The antireflection structure has a plurality of sub-wavelength periodic grooves. The antireflection structure on the window surface can be imparted using an embossing process or an injection molding process.
