The heat source unit has an adjustable capacity compressor, a heat source-side heat exchanger, an expansion mechanism and an accumulator. The refrigerant circuit can perform at least cooling operation. Compressor frequency, degree of superheat, and degree of supercooling are stored in a stable state where the degree of supercooling has been made equal to or greater than a first predetermined value. After a predetermined time period, the degree of supercooling is detected while compressor frequency and degree of superheat become the stored compressor frequency and degree of superheat. The detected degree of supercooling is compared with the stored degree of supercooling to determine adequacy of the quantity of refrigerant inside the refrigerant circuit.
