摘要: An optical element includes a first liquid, a second liquid, and a container, wherein the first liquid and the second liquid substantially differ in refractive index and are immiscible, the first liquid and the second liquid are hermetically placed in the container so that an interface between the first liquid and the second liquid forms a specific shape, the shape of the interface between the first liquid and the second liquid is changed by applying a voltage between the first liquid and the second liquid through electrodes formed in the container, and the container is (1) a resin container of which an inner surface portion of a container wall has a resin phase with a fluorine atom content higher than that of an internal portion of the container wall, (2) a container of which a top portion and a bottom portion are formed of a resin composition including a resin and a hindered amine compound having a transmittance of light with a wavelength of 400 nm measured for a 5 wt % chloroform solution using a cell with 10-mm optical path of 90% or more and a molecular weight of 1500 or more, or (3) a container of which an inner surface is coated with a CVD film formed of a fluorocarbon compound. According to the present invention, an optical element can be provided of which the refractive power for light passing therethrough can be efficiently controlled with a small configuration utilizing an electrowetting phenomenon and which allows continuous transmission or concentration of light from a blue laser (short-wavelength laser).

摘要: A molding material suitable as an optical material and an optical recording medium formed of the molding material are disclosed. The molding material comprises a hydrogenated product of a polymer formed by ring-opening polymerization of a norbornene-type monomer, the hydrogenated product having a number average molecular weight (Mn) of 20,000 to 50,000, a weight average molecular weight (Mw) of 40,000 to 80,000 and a molecular distribution (Mw/Mn) of not more than 2.5 and having a volatile content of not more than 0.3% by weight.

摘要: A process for producing a polymer by ring-opening polymerization of a norbornene-type monomer, which comprises starting the ring-opening polymerization in the presence of a Ziegler-type catalyst consisting essentially of an organometallic compound of a metal belonging to the groups I to III of the periodic table and titanium tetrahalide, carrying out the ring-opening polymerization until the norbornene-type monomer shows a conversion ratio of not less than 60%, and then adding a tungsten and/or molybdenum-based metathesis catalyst to the polymerization reaction system to continue the ring-opening polymerization.

摘要: A molded thermoplastic resin disc substrate specially adapted for use with floating head type recording/reproduction apparatus is provided. The molded disc substrate has surface smoothness characteristics which are the same or better than are provided with mirror polished aluminum discs. The molded disc substrates include a floating head scanning surface wherein the maximum projection height or maximum surface irregularity is less than about 50 nm to reduce or eliminate damage to either the disc or floating head caused by unwanted collisions between them. In a preferred embodiment, the molded disc substrates are molded from a thermoplastic resin composition containing 10000 particles/gram or less of particles having a particle diameter of 0.5 .mu.m or more. In a preferred embodiment, control of particle size and content is achieved by subjecting the resin molding composition to a sequence of filtering steps using filters of decreasing mesh size.

摘要: Using a thermoplastic norbornene type plastic as a material for the magnetic disc substrate, a magnetic disc substrate having a small deformation and a high modulus of elasticity is prepared. By optimizing the thickness of the substrate, the resonance frequency of the magnetic disc can be elevated to a level higher than the servo band. As a result, a magnetic disc substrate can form a servo mark having a high positional precision, and can carry out tracking with high precision.
