Abstract:
A portable, personal monitor measures and displays the concentrations of toxic substances to which an individual wearing the monitor has been exposed during a shift or other work period of the individual. The monitor is constructed in a compact, portable form, and it is enclosed within an outer case for wear by the individual during the work shift.
Abstract:
A method of detecting a component gas of a gaseous mixture, and apparatus implementing the method, is disclosed. The method includes passing the mixture through a fixed-phase separator to produce an effluent in which the components are consigned, in ordered [time-related] fashion, to predetermined portions of the effluent. That portion of the effluent containing the component gas to be detected is monitored to produce a measurement indicative of the quantity of the component gas in the mixture.
Abstract:
Fuel blends and processes for producing a fuel unit blend to replace gasoline or supplement the apparent energy density of diesel or other fuel. The fuel unit blend comprises a base combustive fuel component that produces excess heat, which heat activates and sustains reactions of secondary detonative fuel components. The fuel mixture including a detonative fuel component blended with a stabilizing fuel component is dynamically stable, allowing the detonative fuel component to survive the combustion of the base combustive fuel component. The fuel blend produces first deflagrative combustion and then detonative or explosive waves in an internal combustion engine so as to produce maximum effective torque on the engines piston. A secondary effect is provided when the exhaust gas is cooled, increasing the Carnot thermal efficiency of the engine. The fuel blends may be diluted with a base combustive fuel to form a synthetic fuel for use within an internal combustion engine. The synthetic fuels also have application in mining, demolition, and military applications as explosive trains including a primary fuel explosive and a secondary explosive comprising the core polar material. Detonation or explosion of the secondary accelerates the combustion products of the primary fuel.
Abstract:
A process control apparatus and system for dewatering a solids ladened slurry of water and waste water embodying one or more of four primary process control techniques, depending upon the particular process application. The four process control techniques are (1) monitoring of the instantaneous solids concentration increase in the dewatering unit, (2) measurement of the rate of change of the solids concentration increase with respect to time, (3) controlled pumping to produce a substantially constant flow rate in the effluent from the dewatering unit until the terminal dewatering pressure is reached, and (4) variation of the amount of conditioning agents added to the influent slurry in response to one or more control signals derived from other components of the dewatering system and apparatus.
