The recording layer unit is placed into contact with a transport liquid and imagewise ultrasonically exposed to accelerate imagewise diffusion from the recording layer unit to the transport liquid, thereby producing in the recording layer unit an ultrasonographic record. Diffusion is further accelerated imagewise by establishing a temperature differential within the transport liquid adjacent the recording layer unit.
