摘要:
A method of processing a check prior to electronically depositing the check includes steps of (a) attempting to print a cancellation mark on the check using an energy emitting ink, such as a luminescent ink, (b) radiating first energy, such as UV energy, toward the check, (c) determining whether second energy is emitted from the check as a result of the radiated first energy impinging upon the energy emitting ink present on the check, and (d) allowing the check to proceed to electronic deposit only if it is determined that the second energy is emitted from the check. Also, an apparatus for electronically depositing a check that implements the method.

A system for detecting failures in a sensitive region of an inkjet printhead is described. The system includes an inkjet printer that uses a printhead for printing an image on a substrate. The image has a sensitive portion that is more sensitive to printing failures than the rest of the image. The printhead includes a first portion that prints an area of the substrate corresponding to the sensitive portion of the image. A radiant energy source is used with a photodetector located downstream from the printhead to detect background florescence from the substrate in the area of the substrate corresponding to the sensitive portion of the image that should be quenched by printing of the image. If background fluorescence is detected, a failure is indicated.

A method of processing a check prior to electronically depositing the check includes receiving the check, determining a number of existing check submission indicating marks, if any, that are present on the check, determining whether the number is less than a pre-set maximum number, discontinuing the processing of the check if it is determined that the number is not less than the pre-set maximum number, and printing a new check submission indicating mark onto the check and continuing the processing of the check if it is determined that the number is less than the pre-set maximum number. The existing check submission indicating marks may be printed with an energy emitting ink, such as, without limitation, a luminescent ink. Also provided is an apparatus adapted to implement the method just described.

A printer luminescent ink sensor for a printing device including a radiant energy source; and a photodetector located downstream from a print head of the printing device. The photodetector is adapted to detect luminescent energy from an indicium printed by the print head, upon exposure to radiant energy from the radiant energy source, substantially immediately after the indicium is printed.

An ink supply system for a plurality of ink jet printheads offset from each other at different elevations includes an ink reservoir having a single outer casing and a plurality of individual ink wells inside of the casing, the plurality of individual ink wells arranged in a stepped relationship from each other and extending from a first ink well at a highest elevation to a last ink well at a lowest elevation, each of the plurality of individual ink wells supplying ink to and being lower in elevation than a corresponding one of the plurality of ink jet printheads for the purpose of controlling the negative pressure applied to the printheads to properly control the meniscus position at the nozzles for proper operation of the printheads; an ink supply having ink stored therein; and structure for supplying ink to the first ink well. The ink supply system operates such that at times when any specific one of the plurality of individual ink wells except for the last ink well receives an amount of ink greater than its capacity excess ink overflows out of the specific one of the plurality of individual ink wells and into an adjacent one of the plurality of individual ink wells which is lower in elevation than the specific one of the plurality of individual ink wells, and at times when the last ink well receives the amount of ink greater than its capacity excess ink overflows out of the last ink well and is returned into the ink supply.

Mailing machine comprising a printer module including an array of ink jet print elements for printing on an envelope having a top surface, a registration shield located below and spaced apart from the printer module and a transport apparatus. The registration shield includes a top surface and a bottom surface and has an opening through which the array of ink jet print elements project ink onto the top surface of the envelope. The transport apparatus feeds the envelope in a path of travel so that the envelope passes between the registration shield and the printer module. Additionally, the transport apparatus includes a device for biasing the top surface of the envelope into contact with the registration shield. The registration shield further includes a channel extending parallel to the path of travel and in substantial alignment with the opening so that the top surface of the envelope in proximity to the channel does not contact the bottom surface of the registration shield so as to allow air to flow through the opening.
