Abstract: A speaker produces acoustic frequencies within a housing that outputs the acoustic frequencies to a port. The produced frequencies travel through a cavity to the port which may have a cavity resonance that amplifies certain frequencies, affecting the frequency sensitivity of the speaker. To mitigate the cavity resonance, the speaker includes a membrane with regions having different breakup frequencies. One region is tuned to break up at a desired bandwidth of the speaker, and another region is tuned to break up at the cavity resonance, mitigating the distortion on frequency response due to the cavity resonance.

Abstract: A head-mounted display is provided. The head-mounted display includes (A) a body and (B) one or more strap arms securing the body to a user's head. Each strap arm includes a housing defining: (i) a chamber, (ii) a first audio passage to transmit sound from the chamber to a first audio outlet that outputs sound, and (iii) a second audio passage to transmit sound from the chamber to a second audio outlet that outputs sound. Each strap arm also includes a speaker, positioned in the chamber, configured to emit sound into the first and second audio passages, wherein (i) a front side (e.g., a forward-facing surface) of the speaker faces the first audio passage and a back side (e.g., a rearward-facing surface) of the speaker faces the second audio passage, and (ii) the second audio passage is longer than the first audio passage.

Abstract: An acoustic device with a manifold architecture is described. The acoustic device includes a primary waveguide and a manifold. The primary waveguide has a first end, coupled to an acoustic sensor, and a second end, a port open to a local area. The port receives airflow from the local area that includes sound pressure waves from a sound source and turbulent pressure waves. The sound pressure waves and a first portion of the turbulent pressure waves are detected by the acoustic sensor. The manifold includes a plurality of waveguides that are coupled to a portion of the primary waveguide between the first end and second end. The plurality of waveguides has openings to the local area. The manifold vents a second portion of the turbulent pressure waves through the openings, and the second portion of the turbulent pressure waves is larger than the first portion of the turbulent pressure waves.

Abstract: An audio assembly provides audio content to a user. The audio assembly comprises an elongated body, a diaphragm, a transducer, and a plurality of vent assemblies. The elongated body has a first end and a second end opposite the first end. The diaphragm is within the elongated body and pivots about a pivot location that is proximate the second end. The transducer is within the elongated body and is positioned proximate to the first end. The transducer causes the diaphragm to pivot about the pivot location such that the diaphragm generates a positive acoustic pressure wave from a first surface of the diaphragm and a negative acoustic pressure wave from a second surface of the diaphragm. The plurality of vent assemblies are along one or more surfaces of the elongated body, and are configured to vent the positive acoustic pressure wave and the negative acoustic pressure wave.
