A privacy switch may be operated by an occupant of the room to block actuation of the motor, thereby denying entry to the room. A permanent magnet mounted in the door frame activates a reed switch on opening of the door, disabling the privacy switch and preventing inadvertent disablement of the electronic lock when the room is not occupied.

In one embodiment, the actuator comprises a pair of solenoids controlled from a remote location. In addition an exterior operator is mountable and connectable to the latch actuator to provide controlled access from the exterior of the door.
