摘要: A method is provided for conditioning a tubular knitted fabric. The method includes the step of placing on a supported member a tubular knitted fabric formed of yarns, the yarns having fibers of a high cotton content. The layers of the fabric are arranged in overlying layered relation, each layer having an outer surface. The fabric is traversed at a preselected rate while subjecting the outer surfaces of the overlying layers to jets of fluid at pressures of about 40 bar absolute or lower. The fibers forming the overlying layers do not interlock the overlying layers and are separable by subsequent fabric finishing or laundering.

摘要: A process and apparatus for orienting a plurality of bast stalks for decortication includes receiving a plurality of harvested bast stalks onto a moving belt. The belt has a longitudinal axis in the direction the belt is moving. The process and apparatus orients a substantial portion of the plurality of harvested bast stalks on the belt so that the harvested bast stalks are generally parallel to the longitudinal axis of the belt. The oriented plurality of bast stalks may be collected for decortication.

摘要: A method for harvesting bast plants that have stalks, husks, and seeds. The method includes cutting the bast stalks from the bast plants and receiving the bast stalks onto a first belt. The method then orients at least a portion of the bast stalks on the first belt by moving a bar back and forth across the first belt in a direction generally perpendicular to the direction the first belt is moving, the bar elevated above the first belt and having spaced tines extending toward the first belt, the longitudinal axis of the at least a portion of the bast stalks being generally oriented in the direction the first belt is moving. The husks and seeds may be removed from the bast stalks. The bast stalks may be packaged.

摘要: A method and apparatus for the measurement of thermal conductivity combines the following capabilities: 1) measurements of very small specimens; 2) measurements of specimens with thermal conductivity on the same order of that as air; and, 3) the ability to use air as a reference material. Care is taken to ensure that the heat flow through the test specimen is essentially one-dimensional. No attempt is made to use heated guards to minimize the flow of heat from the hot plate to the surroundings. Results indicate that since large correction factors must be applied to account for guard imperfections when specimen dimensions are small, simply measuring and correcting for heat from the heater disc that does not flow into the specimen is preferable.

摘要: A high-efficiency motor/pump system (20) for jetted baths/spas includes a pump assembly (22) removably secured to a motor assembly (24). The motor assembly (24) includes a motor (26) having a conventional laminated stator (30), a front housing (32) at the forward end of the motor (26), a rear housing (34) at the back end of the motor (26), and a ventilation plate (36) at the end of the rear housing (34). An armature-mounted internal fan (104) draws ambient air through openings in a ventilation plate (36) and forces the air through annular channels (80) in the rear housing (34) to effect cooling of the motor (26). The motor (26) is of the permanent split-capacitor type to eliminate the centrifugal switch commonly used in capacitor-start induction motors to thereby improve reliability. Additionally, telescoping structures on the forward end of the motor assembly and the rearward end of the pump assembly facilitate self-aligning assembly of the components.

摘要: A system for injecting DNA-based medications into humans is provided by the present invention. The system includes a needle-free injector with an injection orifice of approximately 0.004 inches for supplying DNA-based medication at an initial pressure of from 3900 to 4300 psi, and then immediately declining to a level of about 2800 to 3800 psi, and then immediately cutting off pressure to terminate the injection. The injector includes an annular adapter for spacing the injection orifice from the skin of the patient. The adapter includes an abutment against which the injector is disposed so that the orifice is spaced approximately 0.76-1.0 inch from the skin of the patient, the adapter having an inner diameter at the distal end of approximately 0.50-0.70 inches.

摘要: A method or forming binderless clad powders using a high energy ball mill, preferably an attritor-type ball mill, is described. The binderless clad powders are formed by combining and processing a core material powder and a coating material (either a powder with significantly smaller particle size than the core material powder or a brittle material that will quickly form a powder with significantly smaller particle size than the core material powder) in a high energy ball mill for a relatively short time (generally less than one hour). The processing time employed is such that the particle size of the core material powder is not significantly reduced but that the clad powders are formed. At least one of the two materials (i.e., core forming material or coating forming material) must be deformable within the high energy ball mill. Such binderless clad powders are suitable for use as thermal spray powders and which can be thermally sprayed to form coatings on a various substrates.
