摘要:
An absorbent article having a dual-layer absorbent member, wherein the deposition region of its upper acquisition layer comprises a distribution zone and an acquisition zone having a lower average density and a lower average basis weight per unit area than the distribution zone. The acquisition zone is positioned toward the front of either the absorbent member or the absorbent article so that the acquisition zone may most effectively and efficiently rapidly acquire discharged liquids. The lower storage layer comprises a mixture of hydrophilic fibrous material and discrete particles of absorbent gelling material having a particular size distribution so as to enhance the absorbent capacity and acquisition rate of the dual-layer absorbent member. The upper acquisition layer comprises a homogeneous composition of stiffened, twisted, and curled cellulose fibers which provide enhanced wicking action in the densified distribution zone. The upper acquisition layer serves to rapidly and evenly distribute fluids to the lower storage layer for storage, while freeing the acquisition zone for the next discharge of fluid.

Helically corrugated tubing with corrugations that have a gradually changing pitch from one end to the other is manufactured in a twisting machine by rotating one end of a deformable tube about the tube axis relative to the opposite end and simultaneously applying axially directed forces to the tube to progressively develop helical corrugations along the tube wall. The ratio of the torque and the axially directed forces applied to the tube is continuously varied to produce corresponding variations in the pitch of the corrugations. Tubing sections in which the pitch of the corrugations increases gradually from one end to the other are used in shell-and-tube or tube-in-tube heat exchangers and define flow paths having cross sectional areas which increase correspondingly.

Helically corrugated tubing with corrugations of variable depth is manufactured in a twisting machine by rotating one end of a deformable tube relative to the opposite end and simultaneously applying axially directed forces to the tube to progressively develop the helical corrugations in the tube wall. The depth of the corrugations is varied by means of a tapered mandrel which is located within the tube while the corrugations are being formed. Tubing sections with variable depth corrugations define flow paths in which the effective cross sectional area varies correspondingly, and such sections are useful in various heat exchangers.

A radar absorbing holster for use with an electromagnetic radiation generating device is disclosed. The radar absorbing holster comprises a rigid housing having a closed end and an open end defining an inner cavity. The housing has electromagnetically reflective properties, and an electromagnetically absorbing foam layer that is disposed on the inner surface of the housing.

Helical corrugations are formed in a tube having a cylindrical wall by generating pressure radially of the unsupported tube wall at localized areas distributed around the tube circumference. While the radial pressure is being generated, twisting of the tube about its own axis is initiated and as a result, radial deformation of the unsupported tube wall takes place. By controlling the axial length of the tube while it is twisted, the radial deformations develop into flutes which grow axially along a selected helical path in the tube wall.

Method and apparatus for inventory monitoring a supply consumed in the manufacturing of a finished product. An inventory management system monitors the quantity of supplies in a storage facility. Based upon historical data related to the rate of usage of the supplies, the inventory management system determines the period of time until the stored supplies are depleted. If the supplies are depleted prior to a next scheduled delivery of replacement supplies, the inventory management system communicates with the supplier to move ahead the delivery date. Conversely, if the inventory management system determines that the supplies are being consumed at a rate lower than projected, the inventory management system will instruct the supplier to delay a shipment date. Supervisory personnel may access the system from a local location or a remote location. In addition, an alarm is activated when there is a sudden change in the rate of usage of the stored supplies. Provisions are included for remotely accessed the inventory management system, and for detecting the receipt of replacement supplies in order to authorize the payment for the replacement supplies.

A radar absorbing apparatus for use with an electromagnetic radiation generating device is disclosed. The radar absorbing apparatus comprises a rigid housing having a closed end and an open end defining an inner cavity. The open end is formed to have a peripheral edge dimensioned to mate to the interior surface of a motor vehicle window. The housing has electromagnetically reflective properties. In addition, the housing has an aperture that extends through the closed end of the housing that communicates with the cavity. This aperture is dimensioned to receive an operative end of the electromagnetic radiation generating device. The apparatus further includes an electromagnetically absorbing layer that is disposed on the inner surface of the housing.

An improved marker buoy having a body made of nesting segments wherein each segment has a cup-shaped lower portion filled with buoyant material and a hollow cylindrical upper portion with a cup-shaped cavity for nesting with the lower portion of a similar segment. The segments nest one within the other such that the outer wall of each cup-shaped portion reinforces the walls of the segment below it and the nesting segments are held together by a shaft passed longitudinally through the nesting segments with barbs protruding from the shaft for preventing the segments from slipping off the shaft. The segments nested one on top of the other define a cylindrical buoy, of horizontal striped pattern, standing erectly and visibly in the water by reason of a weighted, lower end on the shaft.
