The invention particularly relates to magnetic implants and to attachment devices and methods for mounting a magnet in the middle ear of a patient. The implant comprises a wire-form and a magnet disposed in a housing. The method may comprise the steps of: positioning a magnet in optimal alignment; and attaching said magnet to an ossicle in the middle ear. The method may further comprise the step of using a wire-form to attach the implant to the ossicle. Still further, the method may comprise the step of anchoring the implant to the ossicle with biological cement.

The present invention relates particularly to an external processing unit of a cochlear implant which processes sounds from within the ear canal of the patient. The implant comprises a microphone placed within the ear canal of the patient. The implant can alternatively comprise a hollow tube placed within the ear canal of the patient which is used to carry sound to a microphone located elsewhere. The method may comprise the steps of: providing a microphone in the ear canal, thereby improving the hearing of said hearing-impaired subject.     摘要: A filter assembly or bottle filter for use in bottles or reservoirs of varying shapes and sizes is provided. The assembly has a cap or closure member sealingly connected to a filter body or support having a pair of fluid passageways. A pair of fluid passageways in the cap or closure member are in fluid communication with the pair of passageways in the filter body. A filter of a size to pass through the opening of a reservoir is connected to the opposite end of one of the axially extending passageways in the filter body or support. One of the fluid passageways is used to draw the fluid being filtered through the filter, through one of the passageways in the filter support or filter body and out one of the passageways in the cap or closure member. A pressure monitoring device is connected to the other fluid passageway to monitor the level of the fluid in the reservoir.

    摘要: An adsorption filter is provided by a tank which contains an adsorbent material that is capable of removing impurities from a fluid stream. Filtering may be done by the mass transfer zone principle of adsorption. The tank is formed with an elongated outer shell which is closed at one end and open at the other. An elongated core with an open upper end and a fluid opening at its lower end is centered in the open shell by a funnel that has a centrally located rod and a conical outer wall that contacts the top of the shell adjacent its open end which allows adsorbent material to be poured into the space between the shell and the core. The length of the shell is preferably at least two times as long as the mass transfer zone of the adsorbent material while the fluid opening at the lower end of the core is preferably on the order of three fourths as long as the mass transfer zone. A cap that has a port in fluid communication with the space between the shell and the core is formed by a ring of screened apertures. The second port is formed through the cap which is aligned with the open upper end of the core. The cap otherwise closes off the open end of the shell after the tank is filled with adsorbent and the funnel is removed. The cap is provided with female threads that allow the tank to be screwed into the outlet pipe in a receptacle in a self-supporting manner which allows contaminated fluid to flow into the tank through one of the ports and out the other of the ports.
