    摘要: A method for adjusting a performance parameter of a head suspension for positioning a read/write head in a disk drive. The suspension includes a beam and flexible element for carrying a read/write head extending from the beam. The flexible element has one or more adjustment portions. The beam has one or more openings adjacent to the adjustment portions of the flexible element to provide access to the adjustment portions through the beam. The method comprises acting upon one or more adjustment portions of the flexible element through one or more of the openings in the beam to change a performance parameter of the head suspension. A laser beam is used to irradiate the adjustment portions of the flexible element in one embodiment of the invention.

The hinge is attached to the base mounting structure and to the load beam and includes a constraint layer portion extending toward the distal end portion of the load beam. The damping material is located between and in contact with the constraint layer portion of the hinge and the load beam for damping resonance vibrations in the head suspension.

    摘要: A headlift on a distal end of a load beam of the type for use in a disk drive suspension, including two distally extending rails transversely spaced from each other, a cross member extending between the first and second rails, and a tab extending from the cross member. The headlift may include arms extending transversely from each rail that engage with each other and with an offset formed in the load beam. In one embodiment, the headlift is integrally formed from the same piece of material as the headlift. In a second embodiment, the headlift is formed from a polymer and attached to the load beam. The method of manufacture, in one embodiment, includes providing a unitary flat load beam member and folding the load beam member and attaching portions of the headlift to the load beam to form the headlift. Alternatively, the load beam may be formed with a structural surface that interfaces with a mounting portion of the headlift.

    摘要: A method for manufacturing a disk drive head suspension including a load beam, a flexure and a limiter for restricting the range of motion of the flexure with respect to the load beam. The load beam includes an aperture and an engaged portion adjacent to the aperture. The flexure, in an unformed state, includes a slider mounting region and a generally planar engagement structure extending from the slider mounting region. The engagement structure includes a tab portion extending from the slider mounting region and a hook portion extending from the tab portion. During a first forming operation the hook portion is bent around a tooling die to a ninety degree angle with respect to the tab portion. The flexure is then welded to the load beam with the hook portion extending into the aperture. During a second forming operation the tab portion is bent around a tooling die to a ninety degree angle with respect to the slider mounting region. The second forming operation causes the hook to extend over the engaged portion of the load beam. The first and second forming operations can be performed with tooling moving only in a z-direction.

    摘要: An improved dual stage actuated disk drive head suspension in accordance with one embodiment of the invention includes a mounting/base plate having first and second portions connected by a linkage, one or more PZT motors and a flexure having one or more pairs of differential drive signal traces. Each PZT motor has a pair of electrodes. Non-conductive adhesive secures each PZT motor to the first and second portions of the mounting/base plate with the electrodes of each motor being electrically isolated from the mounting/base plate. Each pair of drive signal traces is electrically connected to one of the pair of PZT motor electrodes to couple differential electrical drive signals to the PZT motor. Each PZT motor drives the first and second portions of the mounting/base plate with respect to one another in response to the drive signals.
