摘要： A system and method for redirecting data to a mobile device having a long-range RF transceiver and a short-range RF transceiver is provided. The system determines whether the mobile device is in physical proximity to the short-range RF network, and if so, redirects data to the mobile device via the short-range RF network, and if not, redirects data to the mobile device via the long-range RF network. Multiple methods for determining the physical location of the mobile device are provided. Also provided is a short-range RF network including a plurality of RF-enabled interface cradles for generating a network of pico-cells within one or more office locations. As a mobile device comes within the vicinity of one of these pico-cells, contact information is provided to the system indicating the phyiscal location of the mobile device.

摘要： A scheme for redirecting data items to a user of a mobile data communication device that is associated with a host system and communicates therewith via a wireless network. In one embodiment, a method comprises: detecting arrival of data items for a user at the host system from one or more senders, the data items being directed to an address associated with the user at the host system; determining a delivery level provisioned for the user at the host system; and responsive to the delivery level, applying a delivery rule with respect to the data items received for the user to bundle at least a portion of the data items for transport in a single transmission to the user via the wireless network.

In one embodiment, a method may comprise: automatically detecting arrival of a message at a messaging server for a user having a mail address thereat, the message being displayable on a computer for the user with a status indicator icon associated therewith; processing at least a portion of an instance of the message for transmission to the user's mobile data communication device over a wireless network; receiving a status signal from the mobile data communication device indicating that the message has been deleted on the mobile data communication device; and altering the status indicator icon associated with the message on the computer responsive to the status signal.

In embodiment, a method comprises, among others, determining occurrence of a trigger event configured with respect to a user for controlling redirection of data items addressed to the user at the host system, automatically detecting arrival of a data item at the host system from a message sender, the data item being directed to an address associated with the user at the host system, the data item including an e-mail message and a message attachment; and transmitting at least a portion of the data item from the host system to the mobile data communication device via the wireless gateway using a network address of the mobile data communication device.
