    摘要: A hitless tunable filter may include a ring resonator, a Mach-Zehnder coupler, and first and second phase shifters. The Mach-Zehnder coupler may include a switching arm that is coupled to the ring resonator at first and second coupling points. The first phase shifter may be used to introduce a first phase shift to light propagating through the ring resonator, while the second phase shifter may be used to introduce a second phase shift to light propagating through the Mach-Zehnder coupler. The Mach-Zehnder coupler may have a free spectral range substantially equal to a free spectral range of the ring resonator divided by a non-negative integer.

    摘要: An optical resonator supports three resonance modes and having third-order optical nonlinearity. One or more waveguides are coupled to the three resonant modes. A waveguide input port is more strongly coupled to the first resonant mode than to the second and third resonant modes. A waveguide output port is more strongly coupled to at least one of the second and third resonant modes than to the first resonant mode. An optical filter has at least two optical resonators. The optical filter provides a passband having at least two poles and a transmission zero positioned outside the two poles. An optical demultiplexer includes first optical filter coupled in series with a second optical filter. Both optical filters provide a passband having at least two poles and a zero positioned outside the two poles. The zero of the first filter is located within the passband of the second filter.

    摘要: Optical devices extending the free spectral range and tunability of, and enabling hitless switching of, integrated optical filters suitable for add-drop filters. Devices include (i) a splitter device configured to split an input spectrum among a plurality of output ports, and a combiner device configured to combine at least a portion of the split input spectrum into a single output port, splitter and combiner having respective first and second input and output ports, and a respective transfer matrix, the matrix of the combiner being the diagonal transpose of that of the splitter; (ii) a first optical path coupling the first output port of the splitter and the first input port of the combiner; (iii) a second optical path coupling the second output port of the splitter and the second input port of the combiner, wherein the first and second optical paths are configured to introduce, at least at a wavelength of the input spectrum, a relative phase shift of π radians; and (iv) an optical filter coupled to at least one of the first and second optical paths.

    摘要: An optical device includes a first and a second splitting device. Each of the first and second splitting devices have respective first and second input ports, respective first and second output ports, and a respective transfer matrix. A first optical waveguide is optically coupled to the first output port of the first splitting device and the first input port of the second splitting device. A second optical waveguide is optically coupled to the second output port of the first splitting device and the second input port of the second splitting device. The first and second optical waveguides are configured to introduce a phase shift of π radians to the optical radiation propagating through the first optical waveguide with respect to the optical radiation propagating through the second optical waveguide. The transfer matrix of the second splitting device is the diagonal transpose of the transfer matrix of the first splitting device and the transfer matrix of the second splitting device is substantially different from the transfer matrix of the first splitting device.
