Abstract: A plate assembly for a heat exchanger includes a first plate, a second plate, and an intermediate plate arranged between the first and second plates. The intermediate plate is joined to the first and second plates at peripheral edges to create a sealed periphery of the plate assembly. Corrugations of the intermediate plate provide crests and troughs that are in contact with inwardly facing surfaces of the first and second plates. The plate assembly can be configured as a battery cooling plate heat exchanger to transfer heat from a battery to fluid flowing through the plate assembly.

Abstract: A charge air cooler includes a first, second, and third heat exchange sections. In the first heat exchange section, heat is transferred from a first flow of liquid coolant to a refrigerant in order to cool the first flow of liquid coolant from a first temperature to a second temperature. In the second heat exchange section, heat is transferred from a flow of charge air to a second flow of liquid coolant in order to cool the flow of charge air from a third temperature to a fourth temperature. In the third heat exchange section, heat is transferred from the flow of charge air to the first flow of liquid coolant in order to cool the flow of charge air from the fourth temperature to a fifth temperature, the fifth temperature being less than the first temperature.

Abstract: A heat exchanger is constructed from a plurality of plate pairs stacked to form air flow passages between adjacent ones of the plurality of plate pairs and cooling fluid flow paths within each of the plurality of plate pairs. The cooling fluid flow paths have a first portion along one longitudinal edge of each plate pair, a second portion along an opposing longitudinal edge each plate pair, a third portion extending through the heat exchange section between the first and second portions, and a fourth portion extending between the first and second portions along one lateral edge of each plate pair and bypassing the third portion. Flow barriers are arranged within each plate pair to at least partially define the third and fourth portions.

Abstract: A heat exchanger, particularly a charge-air cooler, in which heated air is cooled by a cooling fluid, is constructed from stacked pairs of plates with air flow passages arranged between adjacent ones of the plate pairs. Each of the pairs of plates includes an inlet and an outlet for the cooling fluid flow arranged within an inlet and outlet region and aligned with the direction of the air flow through the heat exchanger. A flow barrier formed by beads of the plates is arranged between the inlet and outlet region and a heat exchange section of the plate pair. A flow of cooling fluid is directed through a coolant flow path extending through the plate pair between the cooling fluid inlet and the cooling fluid outlet, with the cooling fluid flow path having a first portion along one longitudinal edge of the plates, a second portion along an opposing longitudinal edge of the plates, and a third portion extending through the heat exchange section between the first and second portions. The flow of cooling fluid through the third portion is in a direction counter to the flow of air.
