The invention is directed to a handheld or immersion blender including a coupling device (1) for separating the shank provided with a processing tool from the electrically powered drive part, with an upper coupling part (2) arranged on the drive part having locking elements and a lower coupling part (3) arranged on the tool shank having detent elements, which enable the coupling device (1) to be interlocked axially. In this arrangement the locking elements are formed by spring-loaded holding lugs (11) projecting radially outwardly, and the detent elements are formed by recesses (16) on the inner circumference of the lower coupling part (3), with the upper coupling part (2) being twistable relative to the lower coupling part (3), whereby a releasable coupling is obtained. An improved handheld or immersion blender is thereby made available. The processes of coupling and decoupling an attachment to and from a drive part are made possible readily and without any major force using a simple click-in/turn-out motion. With the coupling of the handheld or immersion blender of the invention requiring only a small number of components and with no need to fit any additional actuating elements, blender operation is simple and manufacture straightforward.

The hand mixer has at least two first (90) and second (77) drive shafts adapted for detachable coupling with various processing tools (76), such as whisk attachments or kneading blades. One of the drive shafts (90) can be non-rotatably coupled with an output shaft (16), extending upwardly through the lid (9), when the hand mixer (10) is placed on the lid (9) of the attachment (1). The output shaft (16) is connected with a drivable blade (21, 22) in the interior of the bowl (2) for chopping foods. The non-rotatable connection is established by engagement of a first toothing (71) provided in the drive shaft (90) and a mating second toothing (70) provided on the output shaft (16). The drive shaft and/or output shaft (90, 16), according to the present invention, is axially displaceable in opposition to the force of a spring (67) so that, during installation, the hand mixer (10) will move into abutment on the lid (9) even in the absence of an engagement between the first (71) and second (70) toothings. This permits ease of coupling of the hand mixer (10) to the attachment (1) because automatic coupling engagement of the drive and output shafts (90, 16) takes place as soon as the motor starts to operate.

The invention is directed to an electric powered hand mixer for processing food materials, which is provided with switching arrangements adjustably disposed on a housing (2) and featuring different settings for activation of a continuous-on mode and a pulse mode. Provision is made for tool mounts for holding various tools including, for example, a mixing or kneading tool (3) or a puréeing wand. A lock release element (14) is provided for ejecting a tool held in one of the tool mounts. Provision is made for two switching devices (10, 12) one of which is associated with the activation of the continuous-on mode and one with the activation of the pulse mode. The two switching devices (10, 12) and the lock release element (14) are mechanically coupled to each other so that only one of the two switching devices (10, 12) is actuatable at a time.
